Move your Phantom wallet from Firefox to Chrome
The Phantom extension for Firefox no longer receives updates. We recommend switching to Chrome for a fully supported experience.
To access your existing wallet in Chrome, install Phantom and restore it using the same wallet credentials. Your funds stay at the same blockchain addresses, so you don’t need to send them to a new wallet.
Keep Phantom installed in Firefox until you’ve restored and checked all your accounts in Chrome.
Step 1: Prepare your wallet credentials in Firefox #
Before switching browsers, make sure you can restore every wallet you use.
Google or Apple wallet #
Make sure you can access the Google or Apple account you used to create your wallet. You’ll sign in with the same provider and account in Chrome and enter your four-digit PIN if prompted.
You can also export your wallet’s recovery phrase as an offline backup. To do this, open Phantom in Firefox, click your profile avatar in the upper left, then go to Settings > Security & Privacy > Show Recovery Phrase. Store the phrase securely offline.
Secret Recovery Phrase wallet #
You’ll need your existing 12- or 24-word recovery phrase to restore your wallet in Chrome. If you already have a secure backup, make sure it’s available before continuing.
If you haven’t backed it up, follow these steps:
- Open Phantom in Firefox.
- Click your profile avatar in the upper left.
- Go to Settings > Security & Privacy.
- Click Show Recovery Phrase.
- Enter the password to unlock Phantom in Firefox.
- Store your recovery phrase securely offline.
Additional imported wallets #
Back up each additional recovery phrase or private key you imported. Restoring your primary wallet won’t automatically restore these separate wallets.
To view an imported account’s private key, follow these steps:
- Click your profile avatar in the upper left..
- Click Manage Accounts.
- Select the account.
- Click Show Private Key.
- Enter the password to unlock Phantom in Firefox.
- Select the network, then store the key securely offline.
Ledger accounts #
Have your Ledger device ready to connect to Phantom in Chrome. Never enter your Ledger recovery phrase into Phantom.
Step 2: Install Phantom in Chrome #
- Open Google Chrome and go to phantom.com/download.
- Under Download for desktop, click the Chrome icon.
- Click Add to Chrome in the browser store and complete the installation.
- Click the extensions menu (the puzzle piece icon) in Chrome’s toolbar, then pin Phantom.
Step 3: Restore your existing wallet #
Open Phantom from Chrome’s toolbar, then follow the instructions for your wallet type.
Google or Apple wallet #
- Click I Already Have a Wallet > Connect Email Wallet.
- Select Apple or Google.
- Sign in using the same provider and account you originally used.
- Enter your four-digit PIN if prompted.
- Create a password to unlock Phantom in Chrome.
Use the original sign-in provider. Signing in with Apple when you originally used Google, or the reverse, can open a different wallet, even if the email address is the same.
Only your first account is restored automatically. Add your other accounts afterward if needed.
Secret Recovery Phrase wallet #
- Click I Already Have a Wallet > Import Recovery Phrase.
- Enter the same recovery phrase you used in Firefox, in the correct order.
- Click Import Wallet.
- Create a password to unlock Phantom in Chrome.
Phantom automatically restores accounts from that recovery phrase that had onchain activity. Empty accounts may need to be added manually.
Private key wallet #
- Click I Already Have a Wallet > Import Private Key.
- Enter a name for the account.
- Select the correct network.
- Paste your private key.
- Click Import.
- Create a password to unlock Phantom in Chrome.
A private key imports a single address on one network. Accounts imported with private keys don’t sync automatically across installations.
Ledger accounts #
- Connect your Ledger to your computer using USB and unlock it.
- Close Ledger Live.
- From Phantom’s welcome screen, click Create a New Wallet > Connect Hardware Wallet.
- Follow the connection prompts, selecting the network and opening the matching app on your Ledger when prompted.
If you’ve already restored another wallet in Chrome, click your profile avatar, then Add Account > Connect Hardware Wallet.
Step 4: Check your accounts #
Before removing Phantom from Firefox, take these steps:
- Compare your account addresses in Chrome with the corresponding addresses in Firefox.
- Check that your expected balances and collectibles appear.
- Add any missing accounts.
- Import any additional recovery phrases or private keys separately.
To add a missing account from your existing wallet, click your profile avatar, then Add Account > Create New Account > Create. Repeat until your expected accounts appear.
To import a separate wallet, choose Import Recovery Phrase or Import Private Key under Add Account instead.
Once you’ve confirmed access to all your accounts in Chrome and secured your backups, you can remove the Firefox extension.
Troubleshooting #
My wallet looks empty #
If you use a Google or Apple wallet, check that you signed in with the original account and provider. For example, if you created your wallet with Google, sign in with Google.
If you use a Secret Recovery Phrase wallet, check that you imported the phrase for the wallet you expected.
Compare wallet addresses as well as balances to confirm you restored the correct accounts.
Some accounts are missing #
Additional accounts may need to be added manually. Wallets imported using separate recovery phrases or private keys must also be imported again.
My recovery phrase won’t import #
Check that it contains exactly 12 or 24 words, with correct spelling and word order. In the browser extension, enter one word in each cell.
Can I use my Firefox Phantom password to restore the wallet? #
Your extension password unlocks Phantom in that browser. To restore your wallet in Chrome, you need your Google or Apple sign-in, recovery phrase, private key, or Ledger device.
You’ll set a password for the Chrome installation during setup.
