Use the Phantom browser extension alongside other wallets
If Phantom and another browser extension wallet are installed in the same browser, they may compete to connect to apps. You can choose which wallet opens by default or use separate browser profiles to keep the wallets independent.
Set Phantom as your default extension wallet #
Choose which wallet opens by default when you connect to EVM apps.
- Open the Phantom browser extension.
- Click your profile avatar in the upper left.
- Go to Settings > Preferences.
- Under Default App Wallet, click Phantom.
After changing this setting, hard refresh the app or site before trying again. A normal refresh may continue using the previously selected wallet. Press Ctrl+Shift+R (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+R (Mac).
If you choose Always Ask, Phantom prompts you to choose between Phantom and MetaMask when connecting to an EVM app.
Some apps may still prioritize another installed wallet. In that case, you may not see the wallet picker, and that wallet may open instead.
If the app doesn't support Phantom yet #
Some apps only display MetaMask as an option. If Phantom is set as your default EVM wallet, selecting MetaMask can still open Phantom instead.
Separate Phantom from MetaMask #
If you regularly use both Phantom and MetaMask, using separate browser profiles prevents connection conflicts.
Move Phantom to a new Chrome profile #
- In Chrome, click your profile icon in the upper right, then click Add Chrome Profile and set up your new profile.
- Install Phantom in your new profile from the Chrome Web Store.
- Open Phantom and restore your wallet. See Sign in to or import an existing wallet into Phantom for more information.
Warning: Never share your Secret Recovery Phrase or private key with anyone. Anyone with access to either has full control of your wallet. Phantom Support will never ask for your recovery phrase or private key.
