How to speed up a transaction

  • Updated

When network activity is high, transactions can take longer than expected to confirm.

Phantom automatically recommends a gas fee based on current conditions. In some cases, you can manually increase the fee to improve confirmation speed.

Manual fee adjustments are only available for native token transfers (such as ETH, MATIC, or bitcoin) on Ethereum, Polygon, and Bitcoin.

  • NFT transactions
  • App interactions
  • Non-native tokens like USDC
  • Any transactions on Solana, Sui, Base, or Monad (these chains don’t support manual gas adjustments)

Note: Increasing the gas fee doesn’t guarantee faster confirmation, but it can improve your chances—especially during periods of high congestion.

Increase gas fee before sending a transaction

If you want to speed up a transaction before sending, follow these steps:

  1. On the transaction preview screen, select Network fee.
  2. Choose a speed:
    1. Fast: Higher fee, fastest confirmation.
    2. Average: Balanced speed and cost (default).
    3. Slow: Lower fee, slower confirmation.
  3. Select Save.

Increase gas fee for a pending transaction

If you already sent a transaction and it is still pending, you can try to speed it up by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Recent Activity tab (clock icon):
    • Mobile app: The upper-right corner of the Home tab.
    • Browser extension: The main navigation.
  2. Select the pending transaction.
  3. Select Speed up.
  4. Confirm to resend the transaction with a higher fee.
