Use the Phantom browser extension alongside other wallets

  • Updated

If Phantom and another browser extension wallet, such as MetaMask, are installed in the same browser, they may compete to handle app connections. You can choose which wallet opens by default, or separate the wallets into different browser profiles to avoid connection conflicts.

Set Phantom as your default extension wallet

If you use Phantom and MetaMask in the same browser, choose which wallet should handle EVM app connections by default.

To set Phantom as your default wallet:

  1. Click your profile avatar in the upper left.
  2. Go to SettingsPreferences.
  3. Under Default App Wallet, click Phantom.

After this setting is changed, Phantom should open first when a supported EVM app asks you to connect a wallet.

If this setting is set to Always Ask, you'll be prompted to choose between Phantom and MetaMask when connecting to an EVM app.

Some apps may still prioritize MetaMask if it's installed. In that case, you may not see a prompt, and MetaMask may open by default.

If the app doesn't support Phantom yet

If an app does not show Phantom as a wallet option, select the MetaMask option in the wallet connection dialog. Even though you're selecting MetaMask, Phantom can intercept the connection if it's set as your default EVM wallet.

Separate Phantom from MetaMask

If you prefer to keep Phantom and MetaMask completely separate, move Phantom to a different browser or a new Chrome profile. This gives each wallet its own isolated environment and can help prevent connection conflicts.

Move Phantom to a new Chrome profile

  1. In Chrome, click your profile icon in the upper right, then click Add Chrome Profile and set up your new profile.
  2. Install Phantom in your new profile from the Chrome Web Store.
  3. Open Phantom and restore your wallet. See Restore a wallet in Phantom for more information.

You can also install Phantom in Brave or Edge from the Chrome Web Store.

Warning: Never share your Secret Recovery Phrase with anyone, including Phantom support. Anyone with access to it can control your wallet.
