You can use Phantom alongside other browser extension wallets like MetaMask. If both are installed in the same browser, you may need to configure which wallet handles app connections by default.
If the app doesn't support Phantom yet
Until more apps add native support for Phantom, you can still connect by selecting the MetaMask option in the wallet connection dialog. Even though you're choosing MetaMask, Phantom will intercept the connection if it's set up as your default EVM wallet.
Set Phantom as your default extension wallet
If you use both Phantom and MetaMask in the same browser, you can choose which wallet should handle app connections by default. This ensures that when an app prompts you to connect, Phantom opens first.
To set Phantom as your default wallet, follow these steps:
- Click your profile avatar in the upper left.
- Go to Settings → Preferences.
- Under Default App Wallet, click Phantom.
If this setting is on Always Ask, you'll be prompted to choose between Phantom and MetaMask each time you connect to an EVM app.
However, some apps automatically prioritize MetaMask if it's installed—so you may not see a prompt and MetaMask may open by default.
Separate Phantom from MetaMask
If you prefer to keep Phantom and MetaMask completely separate, move Phantom to a different browser or a new Chrome profile. This prevents connection conflicts and gives each wallet its own isolated environment.
Move Phantom to a new Chrome profile
- In Chrome, select your profile icon in the upper right, then select Add Chrome Profile and set up your new profile.
- Install Phantom in your new profile from the Chrome Web Store.
- Open Phantom and restore your wallet:
- Recovery phrase wallet: Select I already have a wallet, then Import Recovery Phrase, then import your recovery phrase.
- Google or Apple wallet: Select I already have a wallet, then Connect Email Wallet, then sign in with the same account.
You can also install Phantom in Brave or Edge from the Chrome Web Store.
Warning: Never share your recovery phrase with anyone. Anyone who has it controls your wallet. Phantom Support will never ask for your recovery phrase.
