You can buy Ordinals from your Phantom wallet using Magic Eden or UniSat. Before you buy, make sure you understand how each marketplace uses your Bitcoin addresses and how Ordinals are stored.
Important: Phantom does not protect Ordinals, rare sats, or BRC-20 tokens during standard Bitcoin transfers. Sending BTC may spend any satoshis in your address, including satoshis containing these assets.
Before you buy
Ordinals marketplaces may use more than one Bitcoin address from your Phantom wallet:
- Native Segwit: Often used as the payment address for buying Ordinals.
- Taproot: Often used as the Ordinals address where inscriptions are stored.
You also need enough BTC to cover the purchase price and Bitcoin network fees. Bitcoin transactions may take time to confirm, so your balance and transaction status might not update immediately.
Buy Ordinals on Magic Eden
Magic Eden uses both your Native Segwit address and your Taproot address to purchase Ordinals. Your Native Segwit address is used as your payment address, and your Taproot address is used as your Ordinals address, where your Ordinals are stored.
Step 1: Turn on both Bitcoin addresses in Phantom
- Go to Settings → Preferences → Preferred Bitcoin address.
- Turn on both Native Segwit and Taproot.
Both Bitcoin address types are now available for marketplace connections that require them.
Step 2: Connect to Magic Eden
- Go to Magic Eden.
- Select Bitcoin in the upper left.
- Select Log In → View all wallets → Phantom → Bitcoin → Connect.
- Sign the message in Phantom to confirm the connection.
If another wallet is already connected, disconnect it before connecting Phantom.
Step 3: Prepare your wallet
Before your first transaction, Magic Eden may prompt you to prepare your wallet. This step enables decentralized trading and supports the transfer setup required by Magic Eden.
- Select Prepare your wallet when prompted.
- Review the transaction in Phantom.
- Approve the transaction.
Once the transaction is confirmed, you’re ready to purchase Ordinals on Magic Eden.
Buy Ordinals on UniSat
UniSat supports both Native Segwit and Taproot addresses. If both are enabled, UniSat uses Native Segwit for payments and receiving inscriptions. If only Taproot is enabled, UniSat uses Taproot for both.
Tip: We recommend using your Taproot address to store Ordinals.
- Go to UniSat.
- Select Connect → Others → Phantom Wallet → Connect.
- Sign the message in Phantom to confirm the connection.
- Choose your inscription and review the transaction details.
- Optionally, adjust the network fee.
- Select Confirm to complete the purchase.
After you confirm the purchase, wait for the Bitcoin transaction to confirm. Your balance and transaction status might not update immediately.
