Why am I unable to send BTC?

  • Updated

If you’re unable to send Bitcoin (BTC) from your Phantom Wallet, it is likely due to one of two reasons:

  1. Insufficient BTC for network fees
  2. Your wallet contains rare sats, which Phantom’s sat protection prevents from being accidentally spent

Understanding these factors will help you resolve the issue and successfully send your BTC.

Insufficient BTC for Network Fees

Every Bitcoin transaction requires a network fee, which is paid in BTC. If your only available UTXO (Bitcoin balance) contains rare sats, or you don’t have enough BTC to cover transaction fees, the transaction will fail.

Solution

  • Ensure you have enough BTC in your wallet to cover network fees.
  • If needed, deposit more BTC into your wallet before attempting to send again.

Your BTC Contains Rare Sats (Sat Protection is Enabled)

Phantom automatically protects rare sats by preventing users from accidentally spending them. You can view your rare sats in the Collectibles section of your wallet. If you happen to notice a difference between your wallet balance vs the max sendable amount when sending, this is because the max sendable amount on the send form excludes UTXOs that are not safe to send.

How to Check for Rare Sats

  • Open Phantom Wallet and go to the Collectibles tab.
  • If you have rare sats, they will appear here.
  • Phantom will block transactions that attempt to send BTC containing rare sats, ensuring their preservation.
  • You can also visit Ordiscan to view your rare sats

How to Send BTC That Contains Rare Sats

Since Phantom prevents transactions that include rare sats, you will need to split your BTC UTXO (Unspent Transaction Output) to separate the rare sats from your spendable BTC.

Option 1: Use Magic Eden’s UTXO Splitter

You can use Magic Eden’s UTXO Splitter to extract rare sats from your Bitcoin balance.

Steps to Split UTXO Using Magic Eden:

  1. Open Magic Eden’s UTXO Splitter tool.
  2. Follow the instructions to separate rare sats from your spendable BTC.
  3. Once completed, your regular BTC should now be unlocked for sending.

Note: If your only BTC balance contains rare sats, you may need extra BTC to cover fees for the split transaction.

4. Alternative Method: Use Sparrow Wallet to Send BTC

If you find UTXO splitting complex, you can use Sparrow Wallet to manage and send your BTC manually.

Steps to Send BTC Using Sparrow Wallet

  1. Download & Install Sparrow Wallet from here.
  2. Import Your Phantom BTC Wallet into Sparrow:
    • Open Phantom WalletSettings → Select your BTC accountShow Seed PhraseCopy the seed phrase.
    • Open Sparrow Wallet → Select Import Wallet → Choose BIP39 Seed.
    • Paste your Phantom seed phrase to access your BTC.
  1. Send BTC from Sparrow Wallet (without sat protection).

Important Warning:

When sending BTC via Sparrow Wallet, sat protection will not apply, meaning you could accidentally send your rare sats and Bitcoin collectibles. We are not responsible for third-party software, so proceed with caution.
