Having trouble sending tokens from Phantom?

  • Updated

If you’re unable to send tokens from your Phantom wallet, it may be due to one of the following:

This article walks you through common causes and how to fix them.

Not enough native token for fees

Each transaction requires a gas fee paid in the blockchain’s native token. Tokens like USDT or USDC can’t be used to pay gas fees.

What to check

  • You have enough of the required native token (for example, SOL, ETH, SUI, POL).
  • The token is available on the correct network (for example, ETH on Base is different from ETH on Ethereum).

Gas requirements by network:

Network Gas requirements
Solana Requires SOL for all transactions. Ensure you have at least 0.02-0.05 SOL.
Ethereum Requires ETH for gas fees.
Sui Requires SUI for gas transactions. Ensure you have at least 0.5-0.1 SOL.
Base Requires ETH for gas fees. Ensure you have ETH on the Base network.
Polygon Requires POL for gas fees.
Note: If your balance is low, purchase or transfer the native token to your wallet before retrying the transaction.

Scam token (honeypot or frozen)

Scam tokens are designed to trap funds. You may be able to receive or buy them, but you won’t be able to send or sell them.

What to check

  • The token’s smart contract allows transfers.
  • The token is not a known honeypot or frozen token.
  • The contract has not been flagged as risky or malicious.

How to check

  1. Look up the token’s contract address using the blockchain explorer for the specific network:
  2. Use these tools to identify scams:
  3. Solana: Rugcheck for Solana
  4. EVM chains: Honeypot.is

If the token is flagged, don’t interact with it. You can hide it in Phantom. For details about scam tokens, see Common token scams.

Note: Phantom can’t remove or unlock scam tokens. These restrictions are set by the token’s smart contract—not the wallet.

Network congestion

Some transactions fail when the network is overloaded or your gas fee is too low.

What to check

  • The gas fee is high enough for the transaction to succeed.
  • The network is currently experiencing high traffic.

How to check

  1. Adjust the gas fee (Ethereum, Base, Polygon, or Sui) to speed up the transaction.
  2. Review network conditions on the blockchain explorer:

If the network is congested, try waiting a few minutes before resending the transaction.

You may be using the wrong network

Sending tokens on the wrong blockchain or to an unsupported network may result in a failed transaction or permanent loss of funds.

What to check

  • You’re sending the token on its native blockchain.
    • Solana tokens should only go to Solana-compatible wallets.
    • Ethereum (ETH), Polygon (POL), Base (ETH), and Sui (SUI) tokens must be sent on their respective networks.
  • The recipient's wallet supports the blockchain you're using.
  • You’re not confusing similarly named tokens across different ecosystems—for example, ETH on Ethereum isn't the same as ETH on Base.
  • Base and Sui are separate blockchains—never send tokens between them. Base uses ETH for fees on its own network, while Sui operates with SUI tokens on its own chain.

The recipient’s address may be invalid

Sending to an incorrect or incompatible address can cause your transaction to fail—or worse, result in lost funds.

What to check

  • The recipient address is copied and pasted exactly—don’t type it manually.
  • The address supports the token and the network you’re using.
  • You haven’t accidentally used an address from another blockchain.

Still can't send?

If none of the preceding steps help, check the following:

  • You’re using the latest version of the Phantom app or extension.
  • Phantom is running on a supported browser or device.
  • You’ve restarted the app to refresh the connection.

If the problem continues, reach out to Phantom Support using the Chat option on this page.

Prevent this issue in the future

To avoid failed or delayed transactions:

  • Always keep enough of the native token (SOL, ETH, SUI, POL, Base ETH) in your wallet.
  • Double-check that the recipient address and network are compatible.
  • Be careful when withdrawing from exchanges—ensure the network matches the one used in Phantom.
  • Monitor network conditions and gas fees before sending.

By following these tips, you’ll help ensure smooth, secure token transfers from your Phantom wallet.
