A priority fee helps your transaction get processed faster on the Solana network. When the network is busy, validators process transactions that include higher fees first. This can reduce delays and prevent transactions from getting stuck.
By default, Phantom sets priority fees to Auto, which adjusts based on real-time conditions. You can also switch to Custom and set your own value, if you're an experienced trader, for example.
Setting the fee too low may delay your transaction. Setting it too high when the network is quiet may just lead to overpaying.
When to adjust your priority fee:
- During high activity: Increase your fee slightly for faster confirmation.
- When the network is quiet: Auto is usually the best option.
- If your transaction is pending for too long: Try again with a higher custom fee.
How to adjust priority fees in Phantom
- During a swap, select the Settings icon in the upper-right corner.
- Select Priority Fee, then select Custom, and then set a value between 0.00001 SOL and 1 SOL.
- Apply the changes.
Thresholds
The priority fee can't lower than 0.0001 SOL or higher than 1 SOL. Phantom will show a red banner if the fee you set is outside the allowed range. If your set priority fee is unusually low (under 0.0001 SOL) or too high (above 0.05 SOL), Phantom will show a warning.
If you enter a fee outside the thresholds, the transaction won’t go through.
