What is a priority fee and how to adjust it?

  • Updated

A priority fee helps your transaction get processed faster when the Solana network is busy. Phantom sets this to Auto by default, which adjusts based on real-time conditions. You can also set a custom value if needed.

When the Solana network is busy, validators prioritize transactions that include higher fees. Increasing your priority fee can help your transaction confirm faster. When network activity is low, leaving the setting on Auto is usually the best option.

How to set a custom priority fee

  1. During a swap, select the Settings icon in the upper right.
  2. Select Priority FeeCustom.
  3. Enter a value, then confirm.

If you set a fee outside the allowed range, the transaction won't go through. Phantom shows a red banner if the value is out of range, and a warning if it's unusually low or high.

When to use a custom fee

  • Network is busy: Increase slightly for faster confirmation
  • Transaction is stuck: Retry with a higher custom fee
  • Network is quiet: Auto is usually enough
