How to research a token using its contract address

  • Updated

This guide explains how to research a token using its contract address (CA) before interacting with it in Phantom. Verifying a token’s CA helps you confirm that you’re viewing the correct asset and avoid scams or copycat tokens that reuse familiar names or logos.

You’ll learn how to locate a token’s CA in Phantom and check it using blockchain explorers and trusted third-party tools.

Locate the contract address of a token

  1. In Phantom, open the token.
  2. Scroll down to the Mint or Contract field:
    • Mint is used for Solana-based tokens.
    • Contract is used for Ethereum, other EVM-compatible networks, and Sui.
  3. Copy the address.
  4. Paste it into a blockchain explorer, such as Solscan for Solana or Etherscan for Ethereum.

Alternatively, on the token’s details page, select MoreView on [explorer] to open the token directly in the appropriate blockchain explorer.

Research the contract address with third-party tools

After you copy the CA, you can review it for potential risks using third-party analysis tools. These tools highlight common red flags such as unlocked liquidity, suspicious permissions, or patterns associated with scam tokens.

Tokens on Solana

Solsniffer

Solsniffer analyzes Solana tokens for scam indicators and assigns a risk score called a Snifscore.

  1. Go to solsniffer.com.
  2. Paste the token’s CA into the search field.
  3. Review the token’s Snifscore and warnings.

Use extra caution when interacting with tokens that have a high-risk score.

RugCheck

  1. Go to rugcheck.xyz.
  2. Paste the token’s CA into the search field.
  3. Review the risk analysis.

If a token is flagged as high-risk, consider avoiding it altogether.

Token Sniffer

Token Sniffer scans contracts for common scam patterns, including excessive fees, unlocked liquidity, and suspicious ownership settings.

  1. Go to tokensniffer.com.
  2. Paste the token’s CA into the search field.
  3. Review the risk score and warnings.

Treat high-risk results as a warning sign, even if the token appears popular.

Honeypot.is

  1. Go to honeypot.is/ethereum.
  2. Paste the token’s CA into the search field.
  3. Review whether the token can be sold normally.

Tokens identified as honeypots may allow buying but restrict selling.

Tokens on Sui

On Sui, you can use Nexa Sui Bot on Telegram to review a token’s contract address.

  1. Open Telegram and go to @insidex_safety_checker_bot.
  2. Send the token’s CA to the bot.
  3. Review the results provided.

No single tool is definitive. Use multiple sources and your best judgment before interacting with any token.

Important: Only interact with trusted apps and websites. Never share your Secret Recovery Phrase with anyone, including Phantom Support. Always store your recovery phrase in a secure, offline location.
