Check a token's contract address for risks

  • Updated

If you want to verify that a token is legitimate before you swap, send, or buy it, start by checking its contract address. This helps you confirm you're looking at the correct token and avoid scams or copycats that reuse familiar names or logos.

Find the contract address

To find a token's contract address in Phantom, follow these steps:

  1. Open the token.
  2. Find the Mint or Contract field:
    • Mint is used for Solana-based tokens.
    • Contract is used for Ethereum, other EVM-compatible networks, and Sui.
  3. Copy the address.

You can also select MoreView on [explorer] to open the token directly in a blockchain explorer.

Check the contract address for red flags

After you copy the contract address, you can check it with third-party tools for common warning signs. These tools may highlight issues such as unlocked liquidity, suspicious permissions, or patterns associated with scams.

Warning: Third-party scanners can help identify red flags, but they cannot guarantee that a token is safe. If a token looks risky or the results are unclear, do not interact with it until you verify it through the project's official sources and a trusted blockchain explorer.

Solana tokens

Solsniffer analyzes Solana tokens for scam indicators and assigns a risk score.

  1. Go to solsniffer.com.
  2. Paste the contract address into the search field.
  3. Review the score and any warnings.

RugCheck provides another Solana-focused risk review.

  1. Go to rugcheck.xyz.
  2. Paste the contract address into the search field.
  3. Review the risk analysis.

Ethereum and EVM tokens

Token Sniffer scans contracts for common scam patterns, including excessive fees, unlocked liquidity, and suspicious ownership settings.

  1. Go to tokensniffer.com.
  2. Paste the contract address into the search field.
  3. Review the risk analysis.

Honeypot.is can help identify tokens that may allow buying but restrict selling.

  1. Go to honeypot.is/ethereum.
  2. Paste the contract address into the search field.
  3. Review whether the token can be sold normally.

Sui tokens

For Sui tokens, you can use the Nexa Sui Bot on Telegram to review a contract address.

  1. Open Telegram and go to @insidex_safety_checker_bot.
  2. Send the contract address to the bot.
  3. Review the results.

Important: Verify that you're using the official bot handle before interacting with any Telegram bot.

If any tool flags the token as risky, or if you cannot verify the contract address through official project sources, avoid interacting with it.
