If you’ve lost your Secret Recovery Phrase (also known as a seed phrase) or Private Key, what happens next depends on whether you still have the Phantom app installed.
Warning: Phantom can’t help recover lost phrases or keys. If you don’t have access to your wallet and no backup, your funds are permanently lost.
If you still have Phantom installed
If you lost your secret recovery phrase or private key but you still have the Phantom app installed, you can view the recovery phrase or private key in the app by following these steps:
- Open Phantom.
- Select the wallet name or the pencil icon at the top of the wallet.
- Select Show Recovery Phrase or Show Private Key.
Tip: Do this now: If you haven’t backed up your phrase or key yet, write it down and store it in a secure, offline location.
If you no longer have Phantom installed
If you’ve deleted Phantom or lost access to the device and don’t have your secret recovery phrase or private key, there’s no way to recover your wallet or crypto.
This is by design. Phantom doesn’t store your phrase or key, and we can’t restore access.
To avoid permanent loss:
- Back up your secret recovery phrase offline.
- Store it somewhere safe and private—never share it with anyone.
- Treat it as the master key to your wallet.
Can I create a new recovery phrase?
No. Secret recovery phrases are created only when a new wallet is set up.
If you want a new phrase, you’ll need to:
- Create a new wallet. For step-by-step instructions, see How to create a new wallet.
- Manually transfer your assets from your old wallet (if accessible).
Prefer easier recovery?
If you’re looking for a simpler recovery option, Phantom offers Sign in with Google or Apple for new wallets. This lets you recover your wallet using your email and a secure PIN—no need to remember or store a recovery phrase. This feature is available only for wallets created with social login.
