Warning: Do not share your secret recovery phrase or private key with anyone. If someone has access to your secret phrase, they will have access to your wallet. Phantom support will never ask you for your recovery phrase or your private key.
What's a secret recovery phrase?
A secret recovery phrase—also called a seed phrase or mnemonic—is a series of words generated by your crypto wallet. It gives you access to the cryptocurrency linked to that wallet. Think of your wallet like a password manager for crypto, and your recovery phrase as the master password. As long as you have your recovery phrase, you can access all assets tied to the wallet that created it—even if you delete the wallet app or lose the device.
What's a private key?
A private key is a unique string of letters and numbers that corresponds to one specific cryptocurrency address. It lets you sign transactions and access funds in that address. Private keys are derived from your recovery phrase, but they aren’t the same thing. A private key provides access to a single address, while the recovery phrase gives access to your entire wallet.
