Phantom usually updates automatically. If you want to check for updates right away, you can refresh extensions manually in your browser.
Updating the extension does not delete your wallets or funds. Before you make changes to your browser or extensions, make sure you have access to your recovery credentials.
Warning: Never share your Secret Recovery Phrase or private key with anyone. Anyone with access to either has full control of your wallet. Phantom Support will never ask for your recovery phrase or private key.
Automatic updates
Phantom updates automatically when new versions are available. If you’re not seeing the latest version, restart your browser.
Before you update
Updating Phantom should not remove your wallet data. However, if you ever need to reinstall Phantom, reset your browser, or restore access on a new device, you may need one of the following:
- Your Secret Recovery Phrase (12 or 24 words).
- The private key for any imported accounts.
- The email address and PIN you used to set up an email wallet.
To check your recovery phrase or private key, go to Settings → Security & Privacy, then select Show Secret Recovery Phrase or Show Private Key.

FAQ
Does updating Phantom delete my wallets or funds?
No. Updating the extension does not affect your wallets, balances, or transaction history. Your funds are stored on the blockchain, not in the extension itself.
Updates are a good reminder to make sure your recovery credentials are backed up. If you ever need to reinstall Phantom or restore access on a new device, you'll need access to the correct recovery method for that wallet or account.
How do I know which version I'm on?
On the Phantom card in your browser's extensions page, select Details, then check Version. If Developer mode is on, the version is visible on the extension's card.
