Update the Phantom browser extension

  • Updated

Phantom usually updates automatically. If you want to check for updates right away, you can refresh extensions manually in your browser. Updating the extension does not delete your wallets or funds.

Automatic updates

Phantom updates automatically when new versions are available. If you're not seeing the latest version, restart your browser.

Phantom publishes updates to the Chrome Web Store. All supported Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Brave, Edge, Opera) pull updates from the same store.

Manually check for updates

Before you update

Updating Phantom should not remove your wallet data. However, if you ever need to reinstall Phantom, reset your browser, or restore access on a new device, you may need one of the following:

  • Your Secret Recovery Phrase (12 or 24 words).
  • The private key for any imported accounts.
  • Your Google or Apple account and, if prompted, your four-digit PIN.

To check your recovery phrase or private key, go to SettingsSecurity & Privacy, then select Show Secret Recovery Phrase or Show Private Key.

Warning: Never share your Secret Recovery Phrase or private key with anyone. Anyone with access to either has full control of your wallet. Phantom Support will never ask for your recovery phrase or private key.

Update manually

Note: Keep Developer mode off when you're not using it. Leaving it on can expose your browser to security risks from unverified extensions.

  1. Open your browser's extensions page: chrome://extensions/ for Chrome, Brave, and Opera, or edge://extensions/ for Microsoft Edge.
  2. Turn on Developer mode.
  3. Click Update.
  4. Wait for the "Extensions updated" message, then turn off Developer mode.

Firefox is no longer supported. For the best compatibility and performance, use Google Chrome. See Supported platforms and browsers.

FAQ

Does updating Phantom delete my wallets or funds?

No. Updating the extension does not affect your wallets, balances, or transaction history. Your funds are stored on the blockchain, not in the extension itself.

How do I know which version I'm on?

On the Phantom card in your browser's extensions page, select Details, then check Version. If Developer mode is on, the version is visible on the extension's card.
