You can bring a wallet from another app into Phantom using either a recovery phrase or a private key.
- Use a recovery phrase to import the full wallet, including all accounts across supported networks (recommended).
- Use a private key to import one address on one network.
Phantom supports 12-word and 24-word recovery phrases. If your recovery phrase has a different length, you’ll need to import it using a wallet app that supports that format.

Common issues
If you're having trouble importing a recovery phrase or private key into Phantom, this section describes common issues and solutions.
My recovery phrase isn't working
You may see one of the following messages when trying to import a recovery phrase into Phantom:
- "Invalid secret recovery phrase"
- "Phrase needs to be at least 12 words"
- "Word 1 is incorrect or misspelled"
- "Incorrect format"
All of these messages mean that one or more words in the recovery phrase are incorrect. Make sure you enter the exact 12 or 24-word phrase in the correct order, without typos or extra spaces.
You can verify word spelling using the BIP-39 English Word List.
If you've verified the words and it still doesn't work
If you've double-checked spelling, order, and spaces but still see the "Invalid secret recovery phrase" error, try the following:
- Check where the wallet was originally created. If it was created in another wallet app (such as MetaMask, Trust Wallet or Solflare), the recovery phrase may use a different derivation path. Try importing using a private key instead, or re-export the recovery phrase from the original wallet if you still have access.
- Check the word count. Some wallets use 24-word recovery phrases instead of 12. If your phrase has 24 words, make sure you're entering all 24 — Phantom supports both 12 and 24-word phrases.
- Try on another device. If you're entering the phrase on mobile, try importing on the Phantom browser extension (Chrome) instead, or vice versa. This can rule out keyboard or input issues on a specific device.
My private key isn't working
Phantom may not support the private key format. Some wallets use encoding methods that aren't compatible.
If you have a 12 or 24-word recovery phrase for the same wallet, try importing that instead.
