Create a new wallet with a Secret Recovery Phrase

  • Updated

You can create a new wallet in Phantom using a Secret Recovery Phrase, sometimes called a seed phrase. During setup, Phantom shows your recovery phrase as a combination of 12 words—you can view it later in settings. Be sure to write it down and store it somewhere secure and offline. You need this phrase to restore your wallet later if you ever reinstall or reset Phantom and need to sign in again.

Keep in mind that Phantom does not store your recovery phrase, and we won't be able to help you if you lose it.

Before you start

Here's what you'll need:

Browser extension

  1. Open the Phantom browser extension.
  2. Click Create a New Wallet, then Create a Recovery Phrase Wallet.
  3. Create a secure password. This password unlocks Phantom only in your current browser and does not replace your recovery phrase. Your password must be at least eight characters and can contain special characters and numbers.
  4. When presented with a recovery phrase, write it down and store it securely offline.
  5. Click I saved my Recovery Phrase and confirm.
  6. Create your unique Phantom username.
  7. Click Continue, then Get Started.

Mobile app

  1. Open the Phantom mobile app.
  2. Tap Create a New Wallet, then Create a Recovery Phrase Wallet.
  3. When presented with a recovery phrase, write it down and store it securely offline.
  4. Tap OK, I Saved It and confirm.
  5. Create your unique Phantom username and confirm.
  6. Turn on device authentication such as Face ID or fingerprint. This unlocks Phantom only on your current device and does not replace your recovery phrase.
  7. Turn on push notifications.
  8. Tap Continue.

Your new wallet is ready to use.

Warning: Phantom does not store your Secret Recovery Phrase and cannot restore it if lost. Never share your recovery phrase with anyone, including Phantom Support.
