What to do if you lost or forgot your recovery phrase

  • Updated

This article explains what to do if you forgot or lost your 12-word Secret Recovery Phrase.

Your Secret Recovery Phrase (12 words) is the only way to restore a wallet that wasn’t created using Apple or Google login. A public wallet address can’t be used to restore access.

Your options depend on whether you're still logged in to Phantom.

If you're logged out of Phantom

If you're logged out of Phantom on all devices and don’t remember your Secret Recovery Phrase, the wallet can’t be recovered.

Phantom doesn’t store Secret Recovery Phrases. There’s no way to retrieve one after access to the wallet is lost.

If you're still logged in to Phantom

Warning: Don't share your Secret Recovery Phrase or private key with anyone. If someone has access to either, they will have full control of your wallet. Phantom Support will never ask for your recovery phrase or private key.

Export your Secret Recovery Phrase while you still have access:

  1. Go to SettingsSecurity and PrivacyShow Recovery Phrase.
  2. Follow the prompts and copy your Secret Recovery Phrase.
  3. Store it in a secure, offline location.

After exporting, confirm that your Secret Recovery Phrase is written down correctly and stored somewhere only you can access.

If you believe you lost or forgot a private key for a specific account and not your Secret Recovery Phrase, view: What to do if you lost or forgot your private key.
