Buy Bitcoin in Phantom
You can buy Bitcoin in Phantom using your Cash balance, other supported crypto, or an available payment provider. The steps depend on whether you use the mobile app or browser extension.
For native Bitcoin, choose BTC on the Bitcoin network. Bitcoin tokens on other networks are separate assets and won’t appear in your native Bitcoin balance.
Mobile app #
Use your Cash balance #
Once your Cash balance is available, you can exchange it directly for Bitcoin.
- Open the Bitcoin token page. Tap the chevron next to the ticker and select BTC on Bitcoin.
- Tap Buy, Buy More, or Trade > Buy, depending on the options shown.
- Choose Cash as the payment source. It’s usually the default option.
- Enter the amount, then tap Review.
- Review the quote and fees, then tap Confirm.
If you need to add funds first, see Fund your Cash account with Apple Pay, Google Pay, debit card, or bank or Fund your Cash account with stablecoins.
Use another token #
- Open the Bitcoin token page. Tap the chevron next to the ticker and select BTC on Bitcoin.
- Tap Buy, Buy More, or Trade > Buy, depending on the options shown.
- Choose the crypto you want to pay with.
- Enter the amount, then tap Review.
- Review the quote and fees, then tap Confirm.
Available payment tokens and routes depend on the quote. You may also need the source network’s native token to cover network fees.
Browser extension #
Use a payment provider #
- On Home, click Buy.
- Choose Bitcoin.
- Enter the amount.
- Choose an available provider and payment method.
- Click Buy to open the provider’s website.
- Follow the provider’s steps to complete your purchase.
Providers and payment methods vary by location and purchase amount. The provider processes your payment and sends Bitcoin to your wallet.
See Buy tokens in the browser extension.
Exchange crypto for Bitcoin #
- On Home, click Swap.
- Under You Pay, select the token you want to exchange.
- Under You Receive, select BTC on Bitcoin.
- Enter the amount.
- Review the quote and fees, then confirm.
See Swap tokens in Phantom for supported routes and troubleshooting.
Receive Bitcoin from another wallet or exchange #
You can also buy Bitcoin elsewhere and send it to Phantom.
Open Receive in Phantom and select Bitcoin, then copy your receiving address. On mobile, you can also go to Home > Deposit > Receive Crypto.
Use the Bitcoin network when sending native BTC. Check that the receiving address belongs to the Phantom account you want to fund.
See Receive tokens in Phantom.
Understand your Bitcoin balance #
Phantom supports two Bitcoin address types:
- Native SegWit: addresses starting with
bc1q. New wallets use this type by default. - Taproot: addresses starting with
bc1p. Some apps and services require this type.
Phantom shows one combined Bitcoin balance, including only the address types you have enabled. If both are enabled, your BTC balance and portfolio total include funds held at both addresses.
A purchase, deposit, or swap can send BTC to your Taproot address even when Taproot is disabled. Those funds remain at the address but won’t appear in your displayed balance until you enable it.
To include both address types, follow these steps:
- Select your profile avatar in the upper left.
- Go to Settings > Preferences > Preferred Bitcoin Address.
- Enable both Native SegWit and Taproot.
- Close and reopen Phantom, then check your Bitcoin balance.
I bought Bitcoin, but it hasn’t arrived #
Start by checking how you paid:
| Payment method | Action |
|---|---|
| Used Cash or exchanged crypto inside Phantom | Open History and select the trade. Check the source transaction and Bitcoin destination transaction, when available. |
| Paid by card or another payment method on a provider’s website | Check the provider’s order status and receipt. |
| Bought elsewhere and sent BTC to Phantom | Check the sending wallet or exchange’s withdrawal status and receiving address. |
I used Cash or another token, and the source transaction succeeded #
A successful source transaction means the funds were sent into the swap. The Bitcoin side may still be processing or waiting for network confirmations.
Open the trade in History and review its source and destination details. If a Bitcoin transaction ID is available, search it on mempool.space.
- Bitcoin transaction is unconfirmed: it is waiting for Bitcoin network confirmations. Allow it to confirm without repeating the purchase.
- Swap is still processing: the source payment can be complete while the Bitcoin payout is still pending.
- Swap shows failed, or appears stalled after the source payment succeeded: contact Phantom Support with the transaction details.
- Bitcoin transaction is confirmed: check that the receiving address matches your Native SegWit or Taproot address, then follow the balance checks below.
Bitcoin confirmation times vary with network activity and transaction fees. A short on-screen countdown does not guarantee that BTC will arrive within that time.
If you can only find a Solana signature or another source-network transaction ID, keep it. Support can use source transaction details to investigate a cross-chain purchase.
I paid through a payment provider #
Check the provider’s receipt or order page for the purchase status and receiving address.
If the payment or delivery is still pending, or the order failed, contact the provider that processed the purchase. See Third-party onramp providers in Phantom.
If the provider supplied a Bitcoin transaction ID, check it on mempool.space. Once it is confirmed at your address, follow the balance checks below.
I sent Bitcoin from another wallet or exchange #
Check whether the sender has broadcast the withdrawal to the Bitcoin network. A withdrawal marked as processing by an exchange may not yet have a blockchain transaction.
Once a transaction ID is available, check its confirmation status and receiving address on mempool.space.
Bitcoin is confirmed, but my balance looks wrong #
- Make sure you’re viewing the correct Phantom account and BTC on Bitcoin.
- Enable both Native SegWit and Taproot under Settings > Preferences > Preferred Bitcoin Address.
- Close and reopen Phantom.
- Check the receiving address’s current balance and any later outgoing transactions on mempool.space.
A confirmed incoming transaction shows that BTC arrived. A later send or swap may explain why your current balance is lower.
If your balance is correct but a transaction is missing from History, report it as a transaction-history issue.
I can’t find a transaction, or funds were deducted #
Check History and, if you used Cash, Cash > History. Look for the payment amount, time, asset received, and any transaction details.
If funds were deducted and you still can’t identify the purchase or locate the BTC, contact Phantom Support.
Why is a Bitcoin swap route unavailable? #
Available routes depend on the Bitcoin address type and the bridge providers supporting that route. A grayed-out route or "No quotes available" means a quote isn’t available for the selected combination.
If you hold BTC at the other address type, you can check its available routes. Another option may be to exchange BTC for SOL or ETH first, then exchange that token for your destination token. Each swap has its own fees.
Support for Ordinals, rare sats, BRC-20 tokens #
Phantom no longer supports Ordinals, rare sats, or BRC-20 tokens. See Ordinals, rare sats, and BRC-20 tokens.
