Migrate your Phantom wallet to sign in without the PIN
You may see an in-app prompt asking you to confirm your identity with the Google or Apple account connected to your wallet. This is part of a security upgrade for accounts created with Google or Apple login. After this update, you can sign in without needing your four-digit PIN. This article explains what the prompt does and why it’s safe.
Is this safe? Why does this look unfamiliar? #
Yes. This is a legitimate prompt to confirm that you still have access to the Google or Apple account connected to your wallet. It does not make any changes to the assets stored in your wallet.
If you close the prompt or the confirmation does not go through, no changes are made to your account. Your wallet will continue to work as it did before.
What changed? #
Phantom is updating how wallets created with Google or Apple login are protected. These wallets previously used a four-digit PIN as part of the sign-in setup. As part of this update, we’re migrating these wallets to Phantom KMS, a newer key management system that uses your Google or Apple account directly to help protect your wallet.
After the upgrade, you can sign in with your Google or Apple account without needing to remember a separate PIN. You’ll just need access to the Google or Apple account connected to your Phantom wallet.
What if I don't complete it right away? #
You can dismiss the prompt and keep using Phantom as usual. If you don't finish the migration, you may be prompted again later.
What happened to my PIN? #
Your 4 digit PIN was part of the previous sign in setup for wallets created with Google or Apple login. After your wallet is upgraded, you can sign in with your Google or Apple account without entering a separate PIN.
Is my wallet still secure? #
Yes. Your wallet is protected by your Google or Apple account, the same login you’ve always used. This upgrade also improves how your wallet is protected behind the scenes.
We recommend making sure your Google or Apple account has a strong password and two factor authentication enabled.
Can I add additional security to my account? #
Multi-factor authentication is on our roadmap. We will update this article as these options become available
What if I'm having trouble signing in or completing migration? #
Make sure you’re using the same Google or Apple account connected to your Phantom wallet. If the prompt shows an email address, use that account to continue.
If the confirmation doesn’t go through, try again later with a stable internet connection. If you’re still having trouble, contact Phantom Support.
