Verify your identity for Kalshi prediction markets (US)
Prediction markets in Phantom in the United States are offered through Kalshi, a US-regulated exchange. To trade, you'll need a Kalshi account and must complete Kalshi's identity verification.
This article explains how to create or link your account, what you may need for verification, and what to expect.
What you need #
Depending on the level of verification required, you may be asked to provide the following:
- Your full legal name
- Your date of birth
- Your residential address
- Your Social Security number
- Your email address
- A verified phone number
- A valid US government-issued ID, including a driver's license or passport
- A live photo of your ID
- A live selfie
Make sure the information you enter matches your official records exactly, and that any photos are clear, well-lit, and show the entire document.
If additional verification is required, Kalshi may use its identity verification provider, Socure, to capture and verify your government-issued ID or live selfie.
Never send identity documents, selfies, Social Security numbers, passwords, recovery phrases, or private keys to Phantom Support.
Create or link your Kalshi account #
When Phantom prompts you to set up access to Kalshi markets, follow the in-app instructions. The setup process depends on whether you already have a Kalshi account.
If you don’t have a Kalshi account #
Follow the in-app instructions to create a Kalshi account and complete identity verification. Creating an account does not mean your identity verification has been approved. You’ll need to meet Kalshi’s verification requirements before you can trade.
See What you need for the information and documents you may be asked to provide.
If you already have a Kalshi account #
Follow the in-app instructions to link your existing account using a one-time code sent to your registered Kalshi contact.
This lets you connect your existing account without repeating the new-account signup process. You may still be asked to complete additional identity verification when required.
Important: Linking your Kalshi account does not combine your balances. Funds held in the Kalshi app or on kalshi.com aren’t visible in Phantom or included in your Cash balance. Funds used for Kalshi predictions in Phantom aren’t visible in the Kalshi app or on kalshi.com.
"That email is already linked to a Kalshi account on a different Phantom account" #
You'll see this message if the Kalshi account you're trying to link is already connected to another Phantom account. A Kalshi account can be linked to only one Phantom account at a time.
Why verification is required #
As part of its compliance with CFTC regulations, Kalshi uses Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures to verify the identity of everyone who trades on its exchange.
These checks involve collecting your name, address, and other identifying information. You may also need to provide documents or your Social Security number so Kalshi can verify your identity.
You must complete identity verification before you can trade. Kalshi may also request additional information after you begin trading as part of its ongoing compliance checks.
When you'll be asked to verify #
Phantom will prompt you when identity verification is required. Verification requests aren’t limited to account setup. You may be asked to verify again while using prediction markets.
Follow the instructions shown in the app to complete the required checks.
If you've already verified with another Phantom product #
If you've completed identity verification for another Phantom product, such as Cash, you may not need to submit everything again.
With your consent, our service provider Footprint can securely reuse information and documents you've already provided, so you may not need to scan your ID again.
For prediction markets, Kalshi makes its own verification decision. Footprint handles your identity information and shares it with regulated partners such as Kalshi, but does not share it with Phantom or make the verification decision itself.
Processing time #
Verification is generally quick, often just a few minutes, when your information is accurate and your photos are clear. Some cases take longer or may need another attempt.
If your verification isn't approved #
Sometimes verification doesn't go through on the first try.
- You may be able to try again. If specific information didn't match, you can correct it and resubmit.
- In some cases, verification can't be retried. If this happens, we may not be able to provide a specific reason, and there generally isn't a manual review process for this decision.
If you run into an issue with the verification process itself, see Troubleshoot identity verification for Kalshi prediction markets (US).
Your privacy choices and data deletion #
You can request deletion of your identity documents and other personal information at any time.
Your information may be stored with more than one provider involved in verification. Submitting your documents through one provider does not necessarily mean they are stored only with that provider.
- To request deletion of information stored with Footprint, follow the instructions under “Your Privacy Choices and Rights” in Footprint's Privacy Policy to submit a deletion request.
- To request deletion of information held by Kalshi, contact Kalshi Support at support@kalshi.com. You may need to submit separate requests to other providers that hold your information.
If you submitted information through Socure, or aren’t sure which provider holds it, contact Phantom Support, and we can help point you to the appropriate privacy-request process.
