When you move to a new phone, your apps may transfer through iCloud or Google Drive, but Phantom does not transfer your wallet. Even if the app appears on your new phone after a backup restore, you still need to restore your wallet the first time you open it.
If you have already switched phones without backing up your recovery method first, go directly to Restore a wallet in Phantom and follow the steps for how your wallet was originally created. If you no longer have your recovery phrase or access to the Google or Apple account you used, see What if I lost my recovery phrase, private key, or PIN?
Before you switch phones
On your old phone, confirm you have the recovery method for your wallet:
- Wallet created with Google or Apple and a four-digit PIN: Make sure you can access that account and remember your PIN.
- Wallet created with a recovery phrase: Go to Settings → Security & Privacy → Show Recovery Phrase and make sure you have your 12 or 24 words stored securely offline.
Restore your wallet on the new phone
- Download Phantom from phantom.com/download.
- Open Phantom and tap I Already Have a Wallet.
- Choose the restore option that matches how you originally created your wallet. See Restore a wallet in Phantom for instructions.
Common issues
I got a new phone and lost access to my wallet
When you move to a new phone, your Phantom app may appear to work and even show your balances, but your wallet is in watch-only mode.
The credentials needed to authorize transactions were not carried over to the new device. You'll see "You are watching this account" on the Home tab, and going to Settings → Security & Privacy → Show Recovery Phrase will load indefinitely.
To restore access, take these steps:
- Reset Phantom by going to Settings → Security & Privacy → Reset App. If you can't access that menu, reinstall the app.
- Sign back in the same way you originally created your wallet:
- If you used a Google or Apple login, sign in with the same account and your four-digit PIN.
- If you used a Secret Recovery Phrase, enter the same 12- or 24-word recovery phrase word by word.
Phantom does not store your credentials and cannot recover them for you.
Tip: A wallet created with a Google or Apple login also has a Secret Recovery Phrase. You can export it at Settings → Security & Privacy → Show Recovery Phrase. If you ever forget your PIN, you can use the recovery phrase to restore access instead.
