How to recover tokens sent to unsupported networks

  • Updated

If you accidentally sent tokens to your Phantom wallet from a network we don’t currently support—like BSC, Arbitrum, Optimism, Avalanche, or Linea—don’t worry. Your tokens aren’t lost.

You’ll just need to access them using a different EVM-compatible wallet like MetaMask or Trust Wallet. These wallets let you view and manage tokens on unsupported networks.

Important: Only download wallets like MetaMask from their official websites. Never share your private key or recovery phrase with apps or sites you don’t fully trust. Phantom isn’t responsible for losses due to phishing or malicious apps.

Recover tokens sent to unsupported networks

The following instructions use MetaMask as an example, but you can follow a similar process in any wallet that supports the network you’re trying to access.

Step 1: Export your Phantom private key

You’ll need your private key from Phantom to import your wallet into MetaMask. Learn how to export your Phantom private key.

Step 2: Import your wallet into MetaMask

The following steps use MetaMask, but any EVM-compatible wallet that supports your target network will work.

Note: You’ll need a small amount of the network’s native token to pay gas fees. Example: If you received USDT on Arbitrum, you’ll need a bit of ARB to move those tokens.

If you already have MetaMask installed

  1. Identify the network where your tokens were sent—for example, BSC, Arbitrum, or Avalanche.
  2. Open MetaMask and go to the network selector at the top.
  3. If the network isn’t listed, click Add a custom network and enter the network details manually.
  4. Once the network is added, select your account name at the top.
  5. Go to Add account or hardware wallet > Private key.
  6. Paste your Phantom private key and select Import.

If you're new to MetaMask

  1. Identify the network where your tokens were sent.
  2. Download MetaMask from metamask.io and create a wallet.
  3. Then, follow the steps in the preceding section to add the network and import your private key.

Step 3: Send your tokens back using the correct network

Once your tokens appear in MetaMask:

  1. Send the tokens back to your exchange account.
  2. Withdraw them again to Phantom—this time making sure to use a supported network.
