How to view your recovery phrase or private key in Phantom

  • Updated

Both your recovery phrase (also called a seed phrase) and your private key are stored locally on your device in an encrypted vault. You can view and export them in both the Phantom browser extension and mobile app, but you'll need to unlock the vault using your password or biometrics.

Multi-chain setup:

  • Ethereum, Base, Polygon, and Monad share the same private key per account.
  • Solana, Bitcoin, and Sui use unique keys per account.

  3. Select the account, then click Show Recovery Phrase.
  4. Enter your password, then click Continue.

Troubleshooting

I don't see the "Show Recovery Phrase" or "Show Private Key" options

If you don’t see the Show Recovery Phrase or Show Private Key options in Phantom, this could be because you’re using a hardware wallet (such as Ledger or Saga). Hardware wallets never reveal the recovery phrase or private key to apps, including Phantom. This is expected behavior.

If Show Recovery Phrase is missing but Show Private Key appears, your account was imported using a private key. In this case, the wallet doesn’t have a recovery phrase associated with it. Use Show Private Key instead.
