How to move funds to a new Phantom wallet with a new recovery phrase

If you want to improve your wallet’s security, you can move your funds to a new wallet with a fresh recovery phrase (sometimes called a seed phrase). This helps protect your assets if your current phrase is compromised, or if you want to rotate credentials as a best practice.

Browser extension

Step 1: Back up your recovery phrase

Write down your current recovery phrase and any imported private keys. Check that the words and order are correct.

Step 2: Reset Phantom and create a new wallet

  1. Go to Security & PrivacyReset AppContinue.
  2. Create a new wallet with a new recovery phrase. For step-by-step instructions, see How to create a new wallet with a recovery phrase.

Step 3: Import your old recovery phrase as a secondary account

  1. Click your profile avatar in the upper-left corner.
  2. Click Add Account (plus icon).
  3. Click Import Recovery Phrase.
  4. Enter your old recovery phrase, then follow the prompts to finish importing.

Step 4: Transfer your funds

  1. Switch to your old account.
  2. Click Send, then select the token you want to transfer (for example, SOL).
  3. In Recipient, click @, then select your new account (usually Account 1) at the top of the list.
  4. Enter the amount to send, leaving enough to cover network fees.
  5. Click Next, then confirm.

Repeat for each token and any additional accounts tied to the old recovery phrase.

Step 5: Remove the imported accounts

  1. Click Manage Accounts (pencil icon).
  2. Click the imported account, then click Remove Account.

Repeat for all accounts tied to the old recovery phrase.

Step 6: Securely dispose of the old recovery phrase

Destroy any written copies of the old recovery phrase so no one else can use it.
