Your Phantom username is your @handle. It is a simple, recognizable identity other Phantom users can use to send you crypto, find you in chats, and follow your activity. You need a username to access profile features including Phantom Cash, peer-to-peer transfers, and chats.
Claim a username
You are prompted to claim a username when you create a new wallet. If you skipped that step, you can claim one later in Settings.
Before claiming, keep the following in mind:
- Usernames are not case-sensitive. If
@nameis taken,@NAMEis also taken. - Usernames can only contain letters and numbers. Special characters are not allowed.
- Usernames are not available for Ledger wallets.
During wallet setup
- On the Create Username screen, enter the username you want.
- Check whether it's available.
- Select Continue.
From Settings
- Select your profile avatar in the upper left.
- Go to Settings and select Create your @username at the top.
- Enter the username you want.
- Select Continue.
Change your username
You can change your username once every 14 days. Your new username syncs across all devices where you are signed in. After you update it, your old username becomes available for anyone to claim immediately.
- Select your profile avatar in the upper left.
- Go to Settings.
- Select your username at the top.
- Select the Username field.
- Enter your new username, check availability, and save.
Manage linked addresses
Your username is linked to one address per network. When someone sends tokens to your username, they arrive at the address linked for that network. By default, Phantom links your username to the first account in your wallet.
You may need to update your linked addresses in the following situations:
- You deleted your wallet and re-created it using the same Google or Apple login.
- You want to direct your username to a different account.
Important: If your username still points to an old or deleted wallet, funds sent to it could go to the wrong place and be lost permanently.
- Select your profile avatar in the upper left.
- Go to Settings, then select your username.
- Select Privacy and make sure your profile visibility is set to Private or Public.
- Go to Public Addresses.
- Select a network, such as Solana.
- Select your new address.
- Repeat for each network.
Username guidelines
To help keep the community safe, a username may be revoked for any of the following reasons:
- It impersonates public figures or organizations.
- It infringes on trademarks or intellectual property.
- It was created for squatting or resale.
- It contains inappropriate or profane language.
- It is used for phishing or scams.
For more details, see the Terms of Use.
Common issues
I'm being prompted for a username after restoring my wallet
This can happen because Phantom links your profile to the first wallet you restore. If you restored a wallet that does not have a profile, Phantom prompts you to create a new username, and any wallets restored afterward appear under that new profile.
To get your original username back, take these steps:
- Uninstall Phantom.
- Download it again from phantom.com/download.
- Restore the wallet that originally had your username first. See Restore a wallet in Phantom.
Your original profile should appear after a fresh install. If these steps didn't help, contact Phantom Support.
No username I try is accepted
If every username you enter shows as unavailable, check the following:
- Usernames are not case-sensitive. If
@nameis taken,@NAMEis also unavailable. - Special characters are not allowed. Use only letters and numbers.
- Ledger wallets do not support usernames. If you are using a Ledger, usernames are not available.
- You may already have a username. If you previously claimed one, it may be linked to a different wallet. Try restoring your original wallet first.
If these tips didn't help, contact Phantom Support.
I have two usernames linked to the same wallet
This is expected. If you originally created your wallet with a Google or Apple login and later restored it using a recovery phrase, Phantom treats that as a new setup and creates a new profile with a new username. Both profiles are linked to the same underlying wallet, so transfers sent to either username arrive at the same place. You can use either one.
I see usernames or accounts I don't recognize
A recovery phrase generates the same accounts for anyone who has it. If your phrase was shared, stolen, or imported from an untrusted source, accounts and usernames you do not recognize may appear.
If this happens, move your funds to a new wallet immediately. See Move funds to a new Phantom wallet when you need to start over for details.
Warning: Never share your Secret Recovery Phrase or private key with anyone, including Phantom Support. Anyone who has access to either can control your wallet.
Resetting the app or removing an account does not secure a recovery phrase someone else already has. The only safe option is to move your funds to a new wallet.
I can't get back into my wallet. Can I use my username to recover it?
No. Usernames are not a recovery method. To restore your wallet you need either your Secret Recovery Phrase or the Google or Apple account and four-digit PIN you used to create it. Without those, the wallet cannot be recovered.
