If you have already tried the basic steps in Swap tokens in Phantom or Bridge tokens in Phantom and the token still cannot be swapped, this guide covers how to investigate further.
Check liquidity on another platform
Verify the token has an active trading pool and try swapping there directly. Different DEXs route trades differently and may have access to pools Phantom doesn't.
- Solana: Jupiter, Raydium, or Orca. You can also check Solscan to review pool size, recent trades, and trading volume.
- Ethereum and EVM networks: Uniswap. You can also check Etherscan for pool activity.
If the swap fails on multiple platforms, liquidity likely doesn't exist anywhere for that token.
Reduce your trade size
Large swaps can exceed available liquidity or trigger extreme price impact. Try swapping a fraction of your holdings instead of the full amount. See Adjust your swap settings in Phantom for more on price impact.
Wait and retry
Liquidity can change over time. If a token is new or temporarily inactive, more liquidity may be added later. Monitor the token on one of the platforms and try again.
If the token has no liquidity anywhere
If no active pool exists across multiple platforms, the token may be untradable. Common reasons include:
- The token was a scam from the start.
- The project was abandoned.
- Liquidity was removed by the creators.
In these cases, the tokens cannot be converted. Before interacting further with an unfamiliar token, check its contract address for risks.
