Troubleshoot token sends

  • Updated

If you can't send tokens from Phantom, here are the most common causes.

Phantom shows "Invalid format"

The address format doesn't match the selected network. Verify you're sending on the correct network.

You don't have enough tokens for network fees

Every transaction requires a fee (gas) paid in the blockchain's native token—ETH on Ethereum, SOL on Solana, POL on Polygon, and so on. You can't pay fees with stablecoins like USDC or USDT.

Make sure you have enough native tokens to cover the fee before sending. See About network fees (gas) for more information.

The token may be a scam

Some scam tokens are designed to trap your funds. They let you receive or buy them but block you from sending or selling. If you don't recognize the token or received it unexpectedly, it may be a scam.

Verify the token's contract address before interacting. Phantom can't remove or unlock trapped tokens. See Deal with scam or spam tokens.

The network is congested

Transactions can fail when networks are busy. On Ethereum, Polygon, and Bitcoin, try increasing your gas fee. On Solana and Sui, wait and retry during lower traffic.

You're sending on the wrong network

Each token must be sent on the correct blockchain. Sending on the wrong network can cause the transaction to fail or result in permanent loss of funds.

Before sending, confirm the recipient's address and network match the token you're sending.

The recipient address is incorrect

Sending to an incorrect or incompatible address can cause your transaction to fail—or result in lost funds. Always copy and paste addresses rather than typing them manually.

Your wallet may be compromised

If Phantom shows a "malicious account" warning, the account may be controlled by a bad actor. This can happen if you imported a wallet from a recovery phrase you didn't generate yourself.

There's no way to recover a compromised wallet. Create a new wallet and transfer any remaining funds immediately. See Move assets when you need to start over with a new wallet.
