Phantom Won’t Ask You To Migrate Funds

  • Updated

Always keep in mind -- Phantom will never ask you to move your assets to a new wallet address. If you ever receive a message telling you otherwise, it’s a scam. And we want you to know exactly what to look out for and how to stay protected.

Common Scam Tactics to Watch Out For

Scammers are getting more creative, often pretending to be part of the Phantom team or support staff. Here’s how they usually try to trick people:

Scam Tactic What It Might Look Like
Fake Social Media Profiles “Hi there! I’m Olivia from Phantom Support. We’ve detected unusual activity on your wallet. Please migrate your funds using this secure tool: phantom-wallet-verification.net
Phishing Emails or DMs Subject: Phantom Wallet Alert - Action Required
“Your wallet is at risk of being frozen. Please click the link below to verify your identity and restore full access.”
Fraudulent Websites Mimicking Phantom A website that looks almost exactly like phantom.app but has a suspicious URL like phantom-safety.io. It may prompt you to ‘reconnect your wallet for security.’
Messages Claiming Your Wallet is Compromised “⚠️ ALERT: Your Phantom wallet has been flagged for suspicious activity. For your safety, transfer your assets to this verified address until we complete our review.”
Fake Airdrops, Rewards, or Recovery Promises “🎉 Congratulations! You've qualified for the exclusive $SOL bonus airdrop. Just send 0.1 SOL to this address to verify your eligibility.”
💡 Pro Tip: On platforms like Discord, you can reduce scam risks by turning off DMs from strangers.

Here’s how:
  • Go to your User SERVER Settings and then Privacy Settings
  • Toggle off “Allow direct messages" this prevents DMs from server members.
Doing this blocks one of the most common entry points scammers use — and it keeps your wallet a little safer.

How to Protect Yourself

Steps on what you can do to stay safe:

  • Never share your Secret Recovery Phrase or private key — not with anyone, not even someone claiming to be from Phantom.
  • Don’t send assets to anyone claiming they can “safeguard” or “recover” your funds. Legitimate support will never ask you to do this.
  • Check your sources. All official Phantom communications come from these verified channels:

If something feels off or you’re not sure about a message, reach out to us directly through our Help Center before taking any action.

What to Do If You Think You’ve Been Targeted

If you believe you may have interacted with a scammer:

  • Don’t respond — engaging with them gives scammers more chances to manipulate or pressure you.
  • Don’t send any funds — once crypto is sent, it can’t be reversed or recovered.
  • Contact us through the Help Center — we’re here to help verify what’s real and guide you through next steps safely.

We’ll help you figure out next steps and avoid any further risks.

Stay Vigilant, Stay Secure

Web3 gives you full control over your assets—but that also means being extra cautious. Phantom is built with security in mind, but your awareness is the first line of defense. If something feels off, slow down and double check. We’re here if you need us.
