Troubleshoot wallet import

If you're having trouble importing a recovery phrase or private key into Phantom, find your issue below.

"Invalid secret recovery phrase"

One or more words are incorrect. Make sure you enter the exact 12 or 24-word phrase in the correct order, without typos or extra spaces.

You can verify word spelling using the BIP-39 English Word List.

"Incorrect format"

This error appears when you enter a recovery phrase in the private key field (or vice versa).

To import a recovery phrase, select your profile avatar → Add AccountImport Seed Phrase (mobile) or Import Recovery Phrase (extension) → follow the prompts.

Private key won't import

Phantom may not support the private key format. Some wallets use encoding methods that aren't compatible.

If you have a 12 or 24-word recovery phrase for the same wallet, try importing that instead.
