If you see extra accounts after importing a wallet with a Secret Recovery Phrase (12 words), this is usually expected. A recovery phrase can generate many accounts, and Phantom shows accounts with previous onchain activity so you can choose which ones to add.
Why extra accounts appear
Your recovery phrase is the credential for your wallet. It can derive multiple accounts, and each account can have its own addresses and activity.
These accounts are not separate recovery phrases, and Phantom has not created a new wallet without your permission. Phantom is showing accounts linked to the same recovery phrase so you can choose which ones to import.
Choose which accounts to import
When restoring your wallet with a recovery phrase:
- On the Import Accounts screen, select View Accounts.
- Select the accounts you want to import.
- Select Continue.
The accounts you selected will be added to your wallet. Accounts you do not select are not deleted. You can import them later by restoring with the same recovery phrase.
Remove accounts after import
If you imported an account you do not need, you can remove it from your account list.
Select your profile avatar in the upper left → select the account → Remove Account.
Removing an account from Phantom only removes it from the app view. It does not delete the account onchain or remove it from your recovery phrase.
Warning: Never share your Secret Recovery Phrase with anyone, including Phantom support. Anyone with access to it can control your wallet.
