Stake SOL natively in Phantom
Native staking lets you earn SOL rewards by delegating SOL directly to a Solana validator. You need at least 1 SOL to open a native stake account. Your SOL stays in that account under your control, and rewards are paid into it in SOL.
You can open native stake accounts and view rewards only in the Phantom browser extension. You can also view, unstake, and withdraw existing stakes in the mobile app.
Open a native stake account #
Use the Phantom browser extension to create a native stake account.
- Open the Phantom browser extension.
- In your token list, open Solana.
- Click More > Stake SOL.
- Click Native Staking.
- Choose a validator.
- Enter at least 1 SOL.
- Click Stake.
Your stake first appears as Activating. It starts earning rewards when it becomes Active, typically after 2 to 3 days.

Understand your stake status #
Your stake account moves through four states:
| State | What it means |
|---|---|
| Activating | Waiting to start earning rewards. |
| Active | Earning staking rewards. |
| Deactivating | Unstaking is in progress. |
| Inactive | Ready to withdraw. |
Status changes follow Solana epochs, which typically last 2 to 3 days. Check the current epoch at solanabeach.io or explorer.solana.com.
Troubleshooting #
My stake is still Activating or Deactivating #
Your stake may be waiting for the next epoch. Solana epochs typically last 2 to 3 days. Check the current epoch at solanabeach.io or explorer.solana.com.
I unstaked, but my SOL isn't in my wallet #
Unstaking doesn’t return SOL to your wallet automatically. Wait until your stake is Inactive, then follow the steps under Withdraw SOL after unstaking.
I can't find my stake #
Your stake may belong to a different Solana address. This can happen if you restored a different wallet from the one you used to stake.
Check your original address on solanabeach.io. If the stake belongs to another wallet, restore that wallet to access it.
FAQ #
Can I add SOL to an existing stake account? #
No. Create another stake account, or unstake and stake again with the new amount.
Can I stake natively on mobile? #
You can create native stake accounts only in the browser extension. On mobile, you can view, unstake, and withdraw existing stakes, but you can’t view their rewards.
How do I choose a validator? #
Validators process transactions and help secure Solana. When choosing one, consider its commission, uptime, and vote performance.
Use these tools to compare validators:
| Link | Description |
|---|---|
| validators.app | Metrics such as APY, commission, vote performance, and skip rate. |
| topvalidators.app | Rankings based on performance, trust signals, and user activity. |
Spreading your stake across validators also helps keep Solana decentralized.
