Understand verified and unverified tokens in Phantom

A token’s verification status tells you whether Phantom’s token data providers recognize it. A verified badge helps confirm the token’s identity, but it does not guarantee safety, legitimacy, or future value.

Because blockchains are open by design, anyone can create a token and send it to your wallet without your permission. You may receive tokens you didn’t buy, including spam airdrops, scams, or tokens that imitate legitimate projects.

Verified tokens #

A verified token is recognized by Phantom’s token data providers. To check its status, open the token’s page:

  • Mobile app: Scroll to the About section. Verified appears with a purple checkmark on the right side of the Security row.
  • Browser extension: Look for a purple checkmark next to the token’s name at the top of the page.

Note: A verified badge helps confirm token identity. It does not guarantee safety, legitimacy, or future value.

Unverified tokens #

An unverified token hasn’t been recognized by Phantom’s token data providers. This doesn’t necessarily mean it’s malicious.

To check its status, open the token’s page:

  • Mobile app: Scroll to the About section. Unverified appears with a warning icon on the right side of the Security row.
  • Browser extension: Look below the action buttons for the warning: “This token is unverified. Only interact with tokens you trust.”

If you didn’t buy the token or weren’t expecting to receive it, it may be a scam airdrop. The safest option is to leave it alone.

Before trading an unverified token, research it using its contract address. See Check a token’s contract address before you interact with it.

What makes a token appear as verified #

We are unable to provide specific details about how token verification status is determined in Phantom, and we do not have an email address or form to assist with token verification.

If you're trying to have a token appear as verified, in general, a good first step is to make sure the token is recognized by major trusted token data sources such as CoinGecko or Jupiter. However, being listed on either does not guarantee verification in Phantom, and there is no timeline we can share for when a token may appear as verified.
