Import an existing wallet into Phantom

  • Updated

You can import an existing wallet by signing in with your Google or Apple account, using a Secret Recovery Phrase or private key, or connecting a hardware wallet. The steps depend on your platform and whether you've already set up Phantom on this device.

Mobile app

From the welcome screen

If you haven't set up a wallet on this device yet, start from the welcome screen and choose how you want to import.

Google or Apple account

If your wallet was created with a Google or Apple account, sign in with the same account.

  1. Open the Phantom mobile app.
  2. Tap Continue with Apple or Continue with Google and follow the prompts to sign in.
  3. If prompted, enter your four-digit PIN.
  4. Turn on device authentication, such as Face ID or fingerprint. This unlocks Phantom on your current device only and does not replace your Google or Apple account sign-in.

Phantom restores only your first account automatically, regardless of how many accounts your wallet had before. To add the others, see Accounts are missing after importing.

Secret Recovery Phrase

  1. Open the Phantom mobile app.
  2. Tap Import WalletUse Recovery Phrase.
  3. Enter your recovery phrase in the correct order.
  4. Tap Import.
  5. Turn on device authentication such as Face ID, fingerprint, or passcode.

Phantom automatically restores all accounts from this wallet that had activity before. If empty accounts are missing, see Accounts are missing after importing.

Private key

A private key gives you access to one address on one network. Importing one adds that address to Phantom as a standalone account, separate from your main wallet. Private keys don't sync across devices, so you'll need to re-import the key on each device you use.

  1. Open the Phantom mobile app.
  2. Tap Import WalletUse Private Key.
  3. Select the network.
  4. Paste your private key.
  5. Tap Import.
  6. Turn on device authentication such as Face ID, fingerprint, or passcode.

Hardware wallet

Phantom supports accounts from a Ledger hardware wallet. Connect by cable or Bluetooth. Follow the steps in Use a Ledger wallet with the Phantom mobile app.

Imported wallets do not sync automatically

When you import a Secret Recovery Phrase or private key into your wallet, it's added as a separate credential rather than merged with your primary wallet. For example, if you import an additional Recovery Phrase 2 into the mobile app, it won't show up on the browser extension. If you reset Phantom on mobile and restore your primary wallet, Recovery Phrase 2 won't appear either. You'll need to import it again manually.

Keep a record of every recovery phrase or private key you import. If you reset Phantom and restore using only your primary wallet's recovery phrase or Google or Apple account, your imported accounts won't return.

If you imported a recovery phrase that has a Cash account, you won't be able to access those funds. To access them, reset Phantom and restore using that recovery phrase as your primary wallet.

Sync your wallet between the mobile app and browser extension

To use the same wallet, funds, and assets on both the mobile app and browser extension, import the same credentials on each: sign in to the same Google or Apple account, import the same Secret Recovery Phrase or private keys, or connect the same Ledger wallet.

Can I log in with an email and password?

No. Phantom does not support email and password login.
