You can use Face ID in Phantom on the iPhone for faster, more secure access. If you didn’t turn it on during wallet setup, you can do so later.
Warning: Face ID or any other biometric authentication is an additional security measure. It does not replace your Secret Recovery Phrase, PIN, or private keys. Always keep a backup of your credentials.
Turn on Face ID
On iPhone:
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Go to Apps → Phantom.
- Turn on Face ID access.
In Phantom:
- Tap your profile avatar in the upper left.
- Go to Settings → Security & Privacy.
- Turn on Use Face ID Authentication (if you use Touch ID, the name may differ).
Common issues
Face ID isn't working after a software issue
If Face ID stopped working after an iOS update, app update, or settings change, try the following.
Toggle Face ID off and on
- On your iPhone, go to Settings → Face ID & Passcode → Other Apps.
- Find Phantom and toggle Face ID off, then back on.
- Try opening Phantom again.
Reset Face ID
If toggling doesn't help, try these steps:
- On your iPhone, go to Settings → Face ID & Passcode.
- Tap Reset Face ID.
- Set up Face ID again, then try opening Phantom.
My front camera is broken and Face ID won't work
If your front camera is damaged, Face ID will not work and Phantom will show a "Failed to authenticate" error with no way to enter a passcode. The only way to regain access is to reset the app and restore your wallet.
Before resetting, make sure you have one of the following:
- Your 12-word Secret Recovery Phrase
- Your Google or Apple account and four-digit PIN
Then see Reset Phantom for instructions on how to reset.
To avoid this situation in future, disable Face ID from within Phantom before getting your device repaired: go to Settings → Security & Privacy in Phantom and turn off Use Face ID Authentication. Do not disable it from iPhone Settings, as that triggers the locked error screen.
FAQ
Can I change my authentication method later?
Yes. Phantom relies on your device’s security settings. Changing your device’s authentication method will automatically update it for Phantom.
Does Phantom support two-factor authentication (2FA)?
No. Phantom doesn't support 2FA at this time.
