Use Face ID in Phantom

  • Updated

You can use Face ID in Phantom on the iPhone for faster, more secure access. If you didn’t turn it on during wallet setup, you can do so later.

Warning: Face ID or any other biometric authentication is an additional security measure—not a replacement for your 12-word recovery phrase or 4-digit PIN. Always back up your recovery phrase and remember your PIN.

Turn on Face ID

On iPhone:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Go to AppsPhantom.
  3. Turn on Face ID access.

In Phantom:

  1. Tap your profile avatar in the upper left.
  2. Go to SettingsSecurity & Privacy.
  3. Turn on Use Face ID Authentication (if you use Touch ID, the name may differ).

Common issues

Face ID isn't working

If you see "Failed to authenticate" or Phantom won't open because Face ID isn't working, try resetting it on your device.

Toggle Face ID off and on

  1. On your iPhone, go to Settings → Face ID & Passcode → Other Apps.
  2. Find Phantom and toggle Face ID off.
  3. Toggle it back on and try opening Phantom again.

Reset Face ID

If toggling doesn't help, try these steps:

  1. On your iPhone, go to Settings → Face ID & Passcode.
  2. Tap Reset Face ID.
  3. Set up Face ID again, then try opening Phantom.

Still not working?

If the issue persists after resetting biometrics, you may need to reinstall Phantom and restore your wallet using your recovery phrase or Apple/Google login + PIN. See Restore your existing Phantom wallet for details.

FAQ

Can I change my authentication method later?

Yes. Phantom relies on your device’s security settings. Changing your device’s authentication method will automatically update it for Phantom.

Does Phantom support two-factor authentication (2FA)?

No. Phantom doesn't support 2FA at this time.
