Check if your Bitcoin has rare sats

  • Updated

If your sendable Bitcoin balance is lower than your total balance, or you can't send Bitcoin from Phantom, part of your Bitcoin may be tied to rare sats or Ordinals.

Rare sats are collectible satoshis with distinct features—like early block heights or historical significance—sometimes linked to Ordinal inscriptions (Bitcoin NFTs). Phantom automatically protects these assets to prevent accidental spending.

Check for rare sats

Using Ordiscan

  1. Go to ordiscan.com.
  2. Paste your Bitcoin address into the search bar.
  3. Check the Rare Sats, Inscriptions, and BRC-20 tabs.

Using Magic Eden

  1. Go to magiceden.io/ordinals.
  2. Connect your Phantom wallet and select Bitcoin.
  3. Go to your profile.
  4. Check the Rare Sats and Items tabs.

Verify your Bitcoin is confirmed

If you don't see expected sats, the transaction may still be pending.

  1. Go to Mempool and enter your wallet address.
  2. If the transaction is pending on both Phantom and Mempool, wait for it to confirm.
  3. If the transaction is confirmed on Mempool but still shows pending in Phantom, reset the app to resync. See Reset the Phantom app.

Preserve rare sats

To separate rare sats from spendable Bitcoin, use the following resources:

  • Magic Eden UTXO splitter: Use Magic Eden's UTXO Management tool to extract rare sats. See Magic Eden's guide.
  • Sparrow wallet: Manually control which UTXOs are included in each transaction. See Send Bitcoin using Sparrow.
