Why does a token not show a price?

  • Updated

You might see a dash (–) instead of a token’s price in your preferred currency. You might also see messages like “Price history unavailable for this token” or “Quote unavailable.” Here’s what those mean, and what to do next.

When you see “Price history unavailable for this token”

This message doesn’t automatically mean a token is unsafe. It means Phantom can’t display price data because the token doesn’t meet certain requirements.

Why it happens

The token may be suspicious or a scam

Some scam tokens are airdropped to wallets without permission and can mimic legitimate assets. These tokens often aren’t listed on common price sources (like CoinGecko or Birdeye), have no real trading pairs. and can’t actually be sold (even if they look valuable)

Phantom may hide the price to help protect you.

The token doesn't meet market requirements

Even legitimate tokens might not qualify for price display if they have very low trading volume, total value locked (TVL), and market capitalization.

The token has limited or no market activity

If a token becomes illiquid or inactive, Phantom may stop showing its price. Phantom refreshes token data regularly to keep what you see accurate.

When you see “Quote unavailable” while swapping

If you try to swap a token and get “Quote unavailable,” it usually means Phantom can’t generate a trade quote, either because the token can’t be traded or because there isn’t enough liquidity.

Why it happens

The token may be a scam

Some scam tokens are designed to block transfers or swaps, spoof a price to look valuable, and include malicious behavior.

There’s no liquidity

A token can be real but still have no active trading pool. Without buyers and sellers, a quote can’t be created.

The market is inactive

A token might have traded in the past, but if activity stops, quotes may no longer be available.

What you can do

If the token is legitimate and familiar

If the token is new, low-volume, or temporarily inactive, you may still be able to send, receive, or swap it—as long as there’s enough liquidity. So no action is required from your side.

Phantom will show a price automatically once the token is available from a supported source and meets minimum market requirements.

If the token is unfamiliar or unexpected

Treat it with caution, even if it shows a price.

  • Don’t interact with links, websites, or “claim” instructions tied to the token.
  • Don’t assume the displayed value is real (prices can be spoofed).
  • If you’re unsure, report it in Phantom: token page → MoreReport as spam.
