Move funds to a new Phantom wallet when you need to start over

  • Updated

This article explains how to move funds from your current Phantom wallet to a new one when you need to start over. This can help if your current wallet was compromised but still contains funds you may be able to move.

Warning: Never share your Secret Recovery Phrase, private keys, or PIN with anyone, including Phantom Support.

This article includes separate steps based on how your current wallet was created:

Before you start

  • You should still be able access your current wallet on at least one device. If you cannot access the wallet, you will not be able to move funds out of it.
  • You have enough native token, such as SOL on Solana or ETH on Ethereum, to cover network fees (gas). For specific amounts, see How much native token do I need for network fees?

Wallets created with Google or Apple

Step 1: Check what assets are still in your current wallet

Before you delete your current wallet or start over, review everything still connected to it, including the following:

  • Cash account balance
  • Token balances
  • Collectibles
  • Staked tokens
  • DeFi positions
  • Perp and prediction market positions

Some assets or positions may require extra steps before you can move funds. For example, you may need to unstake tokens, withdraw from a DeFi app, or close open positions first.

Step 2: Create a temporary wallet with a recovery phrase

Create a temporary wallet to hold your funds while you start over with your social login wallet.

This is easiest on another device or in the Phantom browser extension using a supported browser. Safari isn’t supported for the Phantom browser extension.

For example, you can install Phantom on a second phone or install it in Chrome on your computer.

Once Phantom is installed, follow these steps:

  1. Select Create a New Wallet.
  2. Select Create a Recovery Phrase Wallet.
  3. Follow the prompts.
  4. Back up the recovery phrase securely.

Important: Store the new recovery phrase in a secure, offline location before you transfer any funds.

Step 3: Transfer assets to the temporary wallet

Send your assets from your current wallet to the temporary wallet.

  1. In your temporary wallet, select Receive.
  2. Select a network, then copy the wallet address.
  3. In your current wallet, select Send.
  4. Paste the address you copied.
  5. Select the same network.
  6. Repeat for any other assets and network you want to transfer.

Before you continue, confirm that the assets arrived in the temporary wallet.

Step 4: Delete your current wallet

After you confirm your current wallet is empty, delete it by following these steps:

  1. Go to SettingsSecurity & PrivacyDelete Wallet.
  2. Follow the prompts.

Step 5: Create a new wallet

After you delete your current wallet, create a new wallet using the same Apple or Google account:

  1. Select Create a New Wallet.
  2. Select Continue with Email, then select Apple or Google.
  3. Follow the prompts.

Step 6: Update the addresses linked to your username

If you previously claimed a Phantom username, you may still see the same username after you create your new social login wallet. Since your wallet addresses change when you start over, update the addresses linked to your username so sends to your username go to the correct wallet.

To update the linked address, see Update the addresses linked to your Phantom username.

Step 7: Transfer funds to your new wallet

Send your assets from the temporary wallet to your new wallet.

  1. In your new wallet, select Receive on the Home tab.
  2. Select a network, then copy the wallet address.
  3. In your temporary wallet, select Send on the Home tab.
  4. Paste the address you copied.
  5. Select the same network.
  6. Repeat for any other assets and networks you want to transfer.

Confirm that everything arrived in your new wallet before you remove the temporary wallet.

Step 8: Remove the temporary wallet

After you confirm everything transferred successfully, you can remove the temporary wallet. Because it was created using a recovery phrase, you can uninstall Phantom or reset the app on the device where you created the temporary wallet by going to SettingsSecurity & PrivacyReset App.
