If your wallet was compromised but you can still access it, the safest move is to transfer your funds to a brand-new wallet and stop using the old one. This guide walks you through doing that, step by step.
The steps depend on how your current wallet was created:
- If you created it with a Google or Apple account, go to Wallets created with a Google or Apple account.
- If you used a 12-word Secret Recovery Phrase, go to Recovery phrase wallets.
This also applies if you want to rotate your recovery phrase for security, since Phantom can't generate a new phrase for an existing wallet. The only way to get a fresh phrase is to create a new wallet and move your assets over.
Before you start
- Make sure you can still access your current wallet on at least one device. If you can't, you won't be able to move funds out of it.
- Make sure you have enough native token, such as SOL on Solana or ETH on Ethereum, to cover network fees. See About network fees.
Wallets created with a Google or Apple account
Step 1: Check what's still in your current wallet
Before you delete your current wallet, review everything still connected to it:
- Token balances
- Collectibles
- Cash account balance
- Staked tokens
- DeFi positions
- Perpetual and prediction market positions
Some assets or positions need extra steps before you can move funds. You may need to unstake tokens, withdraw from a DeFi app, or close open positions first.
Step 2: Create a temporary wallet with a recovery phrase
Create a temporary wallet to hold your funds while you start over with your Google or Apple account wallet. This is easiest in the Phantom browser extension using a supported browser.
Once the Phantom browser extension is installed, follow these steps:
- Select Create a New Wallet.
- Select Create a Recovery Phrase Wallet.
- Follow the prompts.
- Back up the recovery phrase securely.
Important: Store the new recovery phrase in a secure, offline location before you transfer any funds.
Step 3: Transfer assets to the temporary wallet
Send your assets from your current wallet to the temporary wallet.
- In your temporary wallet, get your receive address: on mobile, tap the + button in the lower right, then tap Receive; on the browser extension, click Receive on the Home tab.
- Select a network, then copy the wallet address.
- In your current wallet, start a send: on mobile, tap the + button in the lower right, then tap Send; on the browser extension, click Send on the Home tab.
- Paste the address you copied.
- Select the same network.
- Repeat for any other assets and networks you want to transfer.
Before you continue, confirm that the assets arrived in the temporary wallet.
Step 4: Delete your current wallet
After you confirm your current wallet is empty, delete it in Settings → Security & Privacy → Delete Wallet.
If Delete Wallet isn't available due to an active Cash account, contact Phantom Support.
Step 5: Create a new wallet
After deleting your current wallet, create a new one using your Google or Apple account as described in Create a new wallet with a Google or Apple account.
If your Google or Apple email wasn't unlinked from your previous wallet, use a different Google or Apple account to create your new wallet.
Step 6: Verify your identity for Cash (US only)
Your new wallet has a new Cash account. If you verified your identity for offchain features before, that verification doesn't carry over.
Complete identity verification using a different email address than the one used for your previous Cash account.
Step 7: Update the addresses linked to your username
If you previously claimed a Phantom username, update the addresses linked to it so sends to your username go to the correct wallet. See Manage your username in Phantom.
Step 8: Transfer funds to your new wallet
Send your assets from the temporary wallet to your new wallet.
- In your new wallet, get your receive address: on mobile, tap the + button in the lower right, then tap Receive; on the browser extension, click Receive on the Home tab.
- Select a network, then copy the wallet address.
- In your temporary wallet, start a send: on mobile, tap the + button in the lower right, then tap Send; on the browser extension, click Send on the Home tab.
- Paste the address you copied.
- Select the same network.
- Repeat for any other assets and networks you want to transfer.
Confirm that everything arrived in your new wallet before you remove the temporary wallet.
Step 9: Remove the temporary wallet
After you confirm everything transferred successfully, remove the temporary wallet by going to Settings → Security & Privacy → Reset App on the device where you created it.
