This article explains how to get started with creating a new wallet in Phantom. There are two ways you can do that:
- Using a recovery phrase
- Using a Google or Apple account
Create a new wallet with a recovery phrase
A 12-word recovery phrase (also called a seed phrase or Secret Recovery Phrase/SRP) gives you full self-custody. You’ll write it down and store it securely offline. With it, you can restore your wallet on any device or import it into other crypto apps. This wallet is sometimes called a seed-phrase wallet.
- Download Phantom from phantom.com/download.
- Select Create a new wallet → Create a seed phrase wallet.
- Follow the prompts.
For detailed steps, see How to create a new wallet with a recovery phrase.
Create a new wallet with a Google or Apple account
You can sign up with your Google and Apple account and set a 4-digit PIN. Phantom encrypts and backs up your wallet for easier recovery if you lose access. Even though you don’t see a recovery phrase during setup, your wallet still has one, and you can view or export it later. This wallet is sometimes called an email wallet or a seedless wallet.
- Download Phantom from phantom.com/download.
- Select Create a new wallet → Continue with Email → Continue with Apple or Continue with Google.
- Follow the prompts.
For detailed steps, see How to create a new wallet with a Google or Apple account.
Start fresh with a new wallet
If you want to move to a new wallet—for example, if your recovery phrase or email was compromised—you can create a new wallet and transfer your assets to it. This process gives you a new recovery phrase and set of wallet addresses.
- Back up your current recovery phrase or PIN (if you’re still signed in).
- Transfer your assets to the new wallet after creating it.
- Stop using the old wallet.
