This article walks you through the steps to create a new wallet in the Phantom app—both the browser extension and mobile app for iOS and Android. There are two ways to create a wallet:
- By generating a 12-word secret recovery phrase (seed phrase).
- By logging in with your Google or Apple account (social login).
Create a wallet in the browser extension
Visit phantom.com and select your browser type. Follow the steps in your respective extension store to add Phantom to your browser. After installing, you should see Phantom start-up in a new tab.
Create a social login wallet in the browser extension
You can create a Phantom wallet using your Google or Apple account with no recovery phrase required. In the browser extension:
- Select Create a new wallet > Continue with Email.
- Select either Google or Apple and follow the authentication prompts to link your email to Phantom.
- Set a 4-digit PIN. This PIN is required to access your wallet on new devices. This PIN is required to log in to your wallet on new devices, and recover your account if you lose access to your device or forget your device authentication.
- After setting your PIN, create a password to unlock the browser extension. This password is only used to unlock Phantom on your current device, and doesn't replace your PIN.
Warning: Your PIN cannot be recovered if lost. Do not share your PIN with anyone, including Phantom support.
Create a seed phrase wallet in the browser extension
You can create a Phantom wallet using a secret recovery phrase for full control and compatibility with other wallet apps. In the browser extension:
- Select Create a new wallet > Create a seed phrase wallet to set up an account using a seed phrase.
- Create a password and check the box to agree to Phantom's Terms of Service. This password unlocks Phantom on your current device only. Select Continue.
- Your secret recovery phrase will now be shown. Write it down and store it in a secure, offline location.
- After securing your phrase, select Continue.
- On the next screen, you'll be prompted to create a username. A random available name will be
suggested, but you can personalize it if you wish. For more information, see How to create a username in Phantom. - Finally, locate the Phantom icon in your browser's toolbar. In Chrome, it appears in the top-right corner. If
you don't see it, click the puzzle piece icon to view your extensions and pin Phantom for easier access.
Warning: Your secret recovery phrase is the only way to recover your wallet if you lose access to your device. Phantom cannot recover this phrase for you.
Create a new wallet in the mobile app
Visit phantom.com and select the app marketplace according to your device type (iOS/Android). You will be
redirected to the Phantom application on your device's app store. Follow the steps to download and install
the app on your device. After installing, open the app and you should see the Phantom onboarding screen to
set up a new wallet.
Create a social login wallet in the mobile app
You can create a Phantom wallet using your Google or Apple account with no recovery phrase required. In the mobile app:
- Select Create a new wallet > Continue with Email.
- Select either Google or Apple and follow the authentication prompts to link your email to Phantom.
- Set a 4-digit PIN. This PIN is required to access your wallet on new devices, and to recover your account if you lose access to your device or forget your device authentication.
- After setting your PIN, enable device authentication (such as Face ID, fingerprint, or passcode) for added security. This authentication is only used to unlock Phantom on your current device, and doesn't replace your PIN.
Warning: Your PIN cannot be recovered if lost. Do not share your PIN with anyone, including Phantom support.
Create a seed phrase wallet in the mobile app
You can create a Phantom wallet using a secret recovery phrase for full control and compatibility with other wallet apps. In the mobile app:
- Select Create a new wallet > Create a seed phrase wallet to generate a new wallet using a seed phrase.
- Create a password and check the box to agree to Phantom's Terms of Service. This password unlocks Phantom on your current device only.
- Your secret recovery phrase will now be shown. Write it down and store it in a secure, offline location.
- After securing your phrase, select OK, I saved it somewhere.
- On the next screen, you'll be prompted to create a username. A random available name will be suggested, but you can personalize it if you wish. For more information, see How to create a username in Phantom.
Warning: Your secret recovery phrase is the only way to recover your wallet if you lose access to your device. Phantom cannot recover this phrase for you.
