How to create a new wallet

Important: Do not share your Secret Recovery Phrase or private key with anyone. If someone has access to them, they will have access to your wallet. Phantom Support will never ask you for your Secret Recovery Phrase or your private key.

Visit https://phantom.com/download and select your browser type. Follow the steps in your respective extension store to add Phantom to your browser. After installing, you should see Phantom start-up in a new tab.

How to create a new wallet in the browser extension

Install the Phantom extension from the official website, then follow these steps:

  1. Open the extension and select Create New Wallet.
  2. Set a strong password. This password is used to unlock your wallet on this device only.
  3. Carefully back up your Secret Recovery Phrase in a secure, offline location. Never share your Secret Recovery Phrase with anyone—not even Phantom support.
  4. Complete the setup and start using your wallet.

Important: Your Secret Recovery Phrase is the only way to recover your wallet if you lose access to your device. Phantom cannot recover this phrase for you

How to create a new wallet using your Google or Apple ID (email/social login)

You can create a Phantom wallet using your Google or Apple ID with no Secret Recovery Phrase required.

To get started with creating your email/social login in the browser extension:

  1. Select Create New Wallet and then select Continue with Email.
  2. Select either Google or Apple and follow the authentication prompts to link your email.
  3. Set a 4-digit PIN. This PIN is required to access your wallet on new devices.
  4. After setting your PIN, you’ll be prompted to create a password to unlock the browser extension. This password is specific to the device you’re using and does not replace your PIN.

Important: Your PIN cannot be recovered if lost. Do not share your PIN with anyone, including Phantom support.

Remember:

  • Your device authentication is only used to unlock Phantom on your current device.
  • Your PIN is required to log in to your wallet on new devices, and recover your account if you lose access to your device or forget your device authentication.

How to create a new wallet by generating a seed phrase

You can create a Phantom wallet using a Secret Recovery Phrase (also known as a seed phrase) for full control and compatibility with other wallet apps.

To create a wallet by generating a seed phrase in the browser extension:

  1. If you are a new user, select Create New Wallet and then Create a seed phrase wallet to set up an account using a seed phrase.
  2. Create a password and check the box to agree to Phantom’s Terms of Service. This password unlocks Phantom on your current device only.
  3. Your Secret Recovery Phrase will now be shown. Write it down and store it in a secure, offline location.
  4. After securing your phrase, select Continue.
  5. On the next screen, you’ll be prompted to create a username. A random available name will be suggested, but you can personalize it if you wish. For more information, see How to create or claim a username in Phantom?
  6. Finally, locate the Phantom icon in your browser’s toolbar. In Chrome, it appears in the top-right corner. If you don’t see it, click the puzzle piece icon to view your extensions and pin Phantom for easier access.

Important: Store your Secret Recovery Phrase in a secure, offline location. Phantom does not have access to your phrase and will never ask for it. If someone gains access to your phrase, they will have full control of your wallet and funds—permanently.

How to create a new wallet in the mobile app

Visit https://phantom.com/download and select the app marketplace according to your device type (iOS/Android). You will be redirected to the Phantom application on your device's app store. Follow the steps to download and install the app on your device. After installing, open the app and you should see the Phantom onboarding screen to set up a new wallet.

How to create a new wallet using your Google or Apple ID (email/social login)

You can create a Phantom wallet using your Google or Apple ID with no Secret Recovery Phrase required.

To get started with creating your email/social login in the mobile app:

  1. Select Create New Wallet, then choose Continue with Email.
  2. Choose Google or Apple ID and follow the authentication steps to link your email to Phantom.
  3. Set a 4-digit PIN. This PIN is required to access your wallet on new devices.
  4. After creating your PIN, you’ll be prompted to enable device authentication (such as Face ID, fingerprint, or passcode) for added security.

Important: Your PIN cannot be recovered if lost. Do not share your PIN with anyone, including Phantom support.

Remember:

  • Your device authentication is only used to unlock Phantom on your current device.
  • Your PIN is required to log in to your wallet on new devices, and recover your account if you lose access to your device or forget your device authentication.

If you already have an email-based wallet:

  1. Select I already have a wallet.
  2. Choose Connect Email Wallet, then select Continue with Email and follow the login prompts.

How to create a new wallet by generating a seed phrase

You can create a Phantom wallet using a Secret Recovery Phrase (also known as a seed phrase) for full control and compatibility with other wallet apps.

To create a wallet by generating a seed phrase in the mobile app:

  1. Select Create New Wallet, then choose Create a seed phrase wallet to generate a new wallet using a seed phrase.
  2. If you already have an existing wallet, select I already have a wallet, then:
    1. Enter your Secret Recovery Phrase or private key, or
    2. Connect your Ledger hardware wallet to restore access to your wallet.
