Create a new Phantom wallet

  • Updated

Phantom is non-custodial, meaning only you control your wallet. Phantom does not store your credentials or have access to your account.

There are two ways to create a wallet:

  • Recovery phrase: You're given a 12-word Secret Recovery Phrase that gives you full control of your wallet. Write it down and store it securely offline. You can use it to restore your wallet on any device or import it into other wallet apps that support the same standard.
  • Google or Apple account and four-digit PIN: You sign in with your Google or Apple account and set a four-digit PIN. You'll need access to your Google or Apple account and your PIN to restore your wallet. Your wallet is protected by two factors (your email and your PIN) so that neither alone is enough to access your funds. Under the hood, your seed is encrypted and distributed across independent systems, meaning no single party, including Phantom, can ever access it. Your wallet still has a recovery phrase, which you can export as an additional backup.

Both methods are self-custodial. Phantom never holds your private key or has control over your assets.
