Phantom is a crypto app where you can trade tokens, perps, prediction markets, and tokenized stocks, collect and manage NFTs, chat with other traders, and spend your crypto like real money with Phantom Cash. It's self-custodial, meaning you control your wallet—Phantom doesn't hold your credentials or have access to your funds.
Whether you're new to crypto or already experienced, this guide covers the essentials.
Before you begin
- Your recovery phrase is your wallet. Write it down and store it securely. If you lose it, no one can recover your funds—not even Phantom.
- Transactions are final. Blockchain transactions can't be reversed. There's no undo button, and Phantom can't issue refunds. Always double-check addresses and amounts before sending.
- Transactions require gas. Every transaction requires a small fee paid in the network's native token (SOL on Solana, ETH on Ethereum, and so on). Keep a small balance to ensure your transactions go through. See About network fees (gas).
Download Phantom
Get Phantom from phantom.com/download. Available as a browser extension (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave) and mobile app (iOS, Android).
Always download from official sources to avoid scams and malicious software.
Create your wallet
Open Phantom and select Create a new wallet. You have two options:
- Recovery phrase: Write down a 12-word phrase and store it securely offline. See Create a wallet with a recovery phrase.
- Google or Apple: Sign in and set a 4-digit PIN. See Create a wallet with Google or Apple.

Fund your wallet
- Buy crypto: Purchase tokens directly in Phantom using a debit card, credit card, or other payment methods. See Buy tokens in Phantom.
- Receive from elsewhere: Deposit from another wallet or exchange. See Receive tokens in Phantom.
Set up Phantom Cash
Phantom Cash lets you hold a USD-pegged balance, send money to friends, and (in the US) connect your bank account and spend with a debit card. Activate it in the Cash tab.

Explore and trade
- Swap tokens: Exchange tokens on the same chain or across chains. Go to the Swap tab or select a token and tap Buy or Sell.
- Discover tokens: Browse Explore → Trending to see what's popular. Trade memecoins, established projects, and tokenized stocks.
- Trade perps: Speculate on price movements with perpetual futures. Available on mobile and in Phantom Terminal (trade.phantom.com).
- Prediction markets: Trade on real-world event outcomes. Available on mobile.
- Phantom Terminal: Trade tokens and perps with advanced tools on desktop. Visit trade.phantom.com.
Connect with others
Join live chats on token pages, perps, and prediction markets to discuss trades with other users. Available on mobile.
Customize your profile
- Set an emoji or NFT as your profile avatar.
- Customize names and avatars for each of your accounts.
- Create a Phantom username (
@handle) to receive payments. See Claim your username.
Stay secure
- Save your recovery phrase: Write it down and store it offline. If you lose access to your wallet, this is the only way to recover it.
- Remember your PIN: If you signed in with Google or Apple, you'll need your PIN to approve transactions.
- Never share your recovery phrase: Phantom Support will never ask for it. Anyone who has it controls your wallet.
- Be cautious with unexpected tokens and NFTs: Don't interact with tokens you didn't buy or receive from someone you trust. See I was scammed if something goes wrong.
