About Phantom usernames and public addresses

  • Updated

Phantom usernames give you a simple, recognizable identity that replaces long wallet addresses with something unique to you. They personalize your wallet and make it easier to send and receive crypto across networks and devices.

Here's what you can do with a username:

  • Make peer-to-peer payments to your friends using your Phantom Cash account—instantly and for free.
  • Send and receive crypto from other Phantom users on supported networks.
  • Join live chats on tokens, perps, and prediction markets.
  • Sync your linked wallets across all devices with one username.

Understanding profiles, usernames, and wallets

You’ll only see a profile in Phantom after you claim a username. If you haven’t claimed one yet, you won’t see a profile avatar, profile settings, or the Manage Profile screen. Your wallet will still work normally—profile features just won’t be available until you choose a username.

  • Your profile includes your username, avatar, and privacy settings.
  • Your username is the @handle used for transfers, chats, and visibility in the app.
  • Your wallet holds your accounts and assets, and is restored using a recovery phrase, Google or Apple login, or private key.

A profile can have one username. A wallet may or may not have a profile.

Username guidelines

To help keep our community safe, usernames may be revoked in the following cases:

  • A username impersonates public figures or organizations (such as @elonmusk).
  • A username infringes on trademarks or intellectual property (such as @google).
  • A username is created for squatting or resale.
  • A username contains inappropriate or profane language.
  • A username is used for phishing or scams.

For more details, see the Terms of Use.

Understanding public addresses

Your Phantom username is linked to a set of addresses—one for each supported network. These addresses are where any tokens or collectibles sent to your username will be delivered.

By default, your username is associated with the address from the first account created in the wallet when you claimed the username. If that’s the only account in the app, it’s used across all supported networks.

Each network (like Solana, Ethereum, or Bitcoin) has its own assigned public address. When someone sends you funds using your Phantom username, the funds will be routed to the corresponding address for that network.

If you have multiple accounts

You can assign a different address for each network, using any of your accounts—even ones imported from another recovery phrase. To the sender, it looks the same: they’re sending to your username. But on your end, you control which address receives funds per network.

If the assigned address becomes unavailable

If you assigned a public address from a wallet that was later removed from the app (for example, by removing a recovery phrase), Phantom won’t automatically reassign your username to a different address. You’ll need to update it manually.

This also applies to seedless wallets (created with Google or Apple login) that you deleted. If you set up a new wallet using the same login, your username remains, but you’ll need to link it to the new wallet’s addresses.

FAQ

What is a Phantom username?

A Phantom username is a unique, user-friendly identity for your wallet. Instead of sharing a long wallet address, you can create a custom @handle that’s easy to remember and easy to use. Any accounts linked to your username will sync across devices.

What can I do with my username?

Your Phantom username unlocks key features in the app:

  • Make peer-to-peer payments to your friends using your Phantom Cash account—instantly and for free.
  • Send and receive crypto from other Phantom users on supported networks.
  • Join live chats on tokens, perps, and prediction markets.
  • Sync your linked wallets across all devices with one username.

How do I claim a Phantom username?

You’ll be prompted to choose a username when setting up a new wallet. If you created a wallet before usernames were required, you may be eligible to claim one from your settings. Usernames aren’t available for Ledger wallets. For steps, see How to claim your Phantom username.

Can I change my username?

Yes. You can update your username once every 14 days in the Phantom app. Go to SettingsProfileUsernameEdit Username. For steps, see How to change your Phantom username.

Can I delete my username?

No. Usernames can't be deleted at this time.

How many usernames can I have?

You can only have one username at a time.

Can I link multiple wallets to my username?

You can link one multi-chain wallet to your username, but all address in that wallet will be linked to your username.

Do I need to renew my username?

No. Usernames don't expire.

Can I recover my username if I deleted my wallet?

Yes. If you deleted your wallet and then created a new one using the same Google or Apple login, you’ll keep your original username.

After setup, update the addresses linked to your username: SettingsProfilePrivacyPublic Addresses → choose the correct address for each network.

Can I recover my username if I lost access to my wallet?

No. If you lost access to your wallet and don’t have a backup of your recovery phrase, there’s no way to recover your Phantom username or reassign it to a new account, should you create one.

Phantom can’t manually unlink or reassign usernames because:

  • We can’t confirm that you were the original owner.
  • We can’t know if the current owner will return and use the wallet again.
